Welcome aboard, I'm sorry I can't help you,, but I too have a lost song request, it was a ballad of manned space flight back in the mid 70s, or about the time Major Tom came out and it isn't Major Tom 2 or finial countdown, some of the lyrics revolve around the thoughts of the astronaunt about to liftoff, it was a pretty catchy tune, I remember as a kid listening to it all the time, some of words that I remember are,, As I sit atop of this _____ there must be a thousand other guys-------

Space Oddity by David Bowie.I think you have some of the lyrics mixed up with some other song but Space Oddity is about Major Thom going into space.
It says after he gets into space "You've really made the grade and all the papers want to know whose shirts you wear." I do not know of any other ballad like that. Last edited by Stealhead; 08-05-13 at 06:06 PM. |

This song has that line, "there must be a thousand other guys". It's called Why Me by Planet P Project. Is this it Yubba?

Thank you I can die a happy man, I've missed that song, it's been over 30 years since the last time I heard it, when I was a kid down in the barn milking the cows and that song came on the radio I would always turn it up I think the cows got tired of it.

Well I must have listened to that tune about a dozen times, I told you it was catchy comeing out of the 70's and, it was attached to apollo 13, I don't know how I missed that,, I stepped out to take a break and was treated to a light show that looked right out of, War of the Worlds, a thunder storm was over the ocean, then I remembered this piece of rocken roll history,,,,
