To summarise: it's a post war British military aircraft and this is a fibreglass mock-up of a part or parts for testing ahead of production...?

Wasn't a mock-up but consider the original question as posted:

Righteo then.....this is a two-parter.

What are these? and for what purpose are they being used?

This will not be easy and I will be absolutely amazed at anyone coming up with the correct answer.

A collection of clues so far...

What are THESE

they are part of a British military aircraft in the making.

was used to test something prior to production.

Certainly post WWII and your getting warm.

Tis made from fibre glass material with an aluminium mounting ring around the base

I know the picture is of little help but when I post it in full it will be obvious there was no other way of cropping it without giving everything away.

The picture is of two aircraft fitted with for testing purposes a certain part of the plane that will replace the testing aircraft.

I have partly answered the original question now....what is the part?

Must be easy now....shirley.

I'd like to have another shot at this if he's going to come back here tomorrow and make us all look like idiots.

Maybe later...

I know what you mean. I've been hanging off stage waiting for some telling clue to let me steal the spotlight. I think the purposeful misspelling of surely is telling.

Rather than make us submit to defeat, just give us clues and more picture...
