Without getting into it I have to say also that you are totally wrong SH. If you like I would be happy to explain why everything you mention is irrelevant, in pm's.
This game will likely stay safe not because its protection is unbreakable, but because it is an obscure title. In my case I will probably continue not to get the game due to said copy protection being a hassle (that and I have a strong dislike for most payware DLC) |

I saw that this game is on sale at D2D, and thought id go through this forum to see mention of this game. But after seeing this thread I've decided maybe I'll pass. DRM and planes for DLC?
If this were a Xbox360 game, i'd expect DLC's that you pay for. But for a PC game? |

The DRM is not a hassle and takes about as long as logging into SUBSIM. I also don't terribly mind the fee for new aircraft as the models are great. I look at it as cheap when compared to actual models(plastic, etc.) that would have less detail, get dusty, and have to be held in your hand while you run around making engine sounds to fly.

They're about to drop the online requirement for single mission playing. Maybe they also drop it for online playing

I think I have the server lined out, I may have a little free time, and I am interested in trying out ROF (the DRM debate brought it to my attention, lol). I have an old MS Sidewinder joystick, is that going to be a problem with this game?

What do you gents think about Rise of Flight? I'm really sad about the combat flight sim being a dying genre of PC gaming.
Is ROF worth it? I'm still waiting for Oleg Maddox to come out with IL2: Storm of War. |

RE: Joystick. I have a large number of sticks and some custom/home built sticks, so I can speak with some authority here. If your SideWinder stick uses a gameport interface you may have issues with newer versions of windows. You may also find that your PC no longer has a game port! If if is a forcefeedback stick with a gameport/MIDI interface, you will almost certainly have limited functionality, but it also may be that it works fine for you. Getting a new soundcard with a MIDI/game port can help errors that occur when XP/Vista/7 give some on-board MIDI/Game ports too low a voltage. If you SideWinder stick has a USB interface, the it will work fine with all versions of windows. Same for FFB USB sticks. Sidewinder sticks are still the most durable about. I have never seen them lose their center, jitter or have any kind of hardware problem aside from the wires coming out if abused. Only the gameport sticks can have software problems, but often these can be overcome. The MsSwFFB2(USB) sticks sell for more than they did new these days.

@ Neal... Here's a decent stick at a decent price.
http://www.amazon.com/Saitek-Cyborg-...216808&sr=8-13 And tis is a gotta have to get the most out of ANY flight sim. http://www.amazon.com/CH-Products-Pe...7217056&sr=1-2 Both are compatible with each other. And you won't find them cheaper anywhere else. And you make 7% off the purchase. |

Any of the sidewinder sticks will beat the cheep Saitek sticks hands-down.
Better (and cheaper) to keep your sidewinder if it is a USB stick. Of the 2 Saitek sticks I have, both have developed sensor problems. One no longer centers and the other has lost part of it's range. I salvaged them for parts long ago. My budget Logitech sticks have also developed similar problems. Saitek's more expensive sticks (x52) arn't trouble free after a few years, but they are acceptable. Just keep your warranty details. None of my 10+ Sidewinder sticks (of many variants and ages) have ever developed any problems that couldn't be easily fixed. I have the CH Pedals as well and have repaired other peoples CH pedals in the past. They can develop an output jitter, but this is easily fixed. Very good product. You can get some material from a carpet shop to stop your rugs slipping about. This stuff is perfect to stop rudder pedals slipping about on your floor too. Carpet underlay also works somewhat well for this job. Of course, almost all sidewinder sticks have a twist rudder built in, so you don't have to spend money on pedals if they are not important to you. If you don't plan to buy pedals, make sure you have a twist stick. Avoid the Saitek pedals. Mechanical and electronic problems that arn't worth fixing.

I have Logitec G940 setup now.
Have had X52 since it came out without a problem. With my Saitek yoke setup I use Simped pedals. Neals posts didn't strike me that he wanted to spend to much dinero. Also I doubt his new computer has a gameport. |

@Letum
Why do you have 10+ Joysticks if they are all in good condition?
