Default e-mail signatures and firewalls

My company is sourcing a company to design its company e-mail signature.

I think this is a waste of time as it is something that can be done in house as I showed using a simple but effective signature.

The reason I have been told that they are going out for quotes is so it will be properly tested to make sure it will get past firewalls etc. Hmm sounds like they have been fed BS by a signature writing company.

Am I wrong. We use Outlook 2003 and any signature would just be setup in that with everyone having their own variant.

Maybe I have missed something but I don't see how a small graphic and a bit of text in the signature file is going to upset a firewall.

What's going to be in the signature, text or text + graphics? I suppose it'd be possible to include content in an html e-mail that would cause it to be blocked, but why would you? Simple text contact details, the standard non-disclosure text + company logo shouldn't cause any problems.

I agree with you, someone's telling them what they need, not the other way round.

If they're really worried they could just restrict you to plain text, that'd save bandwidth too.

When you are linking to an image somewhere on the web that could be considered rude and not done. Because server data could be used to find out when someone reads that email.

In case you are going to include that image in the email many people might not see it. I use the standard Outlook settings and therefore see no images in email, just the red crosses. I can click the "show images button", but to do that for a sig is kin of useless.

I would keep it simpel, just use text in the signatures. For instance just use the main slogan of the company

It would be text plus image.

The image wouldn't be a link to a server file but embedded in the e-mail signature
