Community Public Annoucement:
This is just a friendly warning to all user's of the GW Mod and those who wish to ALSO use NYGM as an overwrite on TOP of GW. Due to the number of ppl over the last few weeks or so that have installed GW and then installed NYGM over the top and then find that certain bit's no longer function correctly - this is due to the fact that Both mods are NOT compatable with each other. I'm not saying you have to use just GW and forgo NYGM, nor that you have to use just NYGM and forgo GW. As several other ppl have stated you can have your cake and eat it too. Its just a case of having Dual Installs of SH3 with 1 mod only installed into 1 of each of the copy's of SH3. This has been explained by several ppl before as to the "How To". The other thing is you cant expect either GW or NYGM to try to solve your issues with a combined install of both mods, since in reality what you now have installed is not realy either GW or NYGM. So the moral of the story is this. USER BEWARE and on you own head be it if you run a combined GW/NYGM install. |

A merger between the two is not supported, nor is it realistically feasible. The same is true of Carotio's Add-On for GW. This work is not supported or condoned by the GW team in any way. A merger between the two is not supported, nor is it realistically feasible. As modders our respective dev teams can only effectively support our own respective mod packages. We all have different philosophies and points of view that address things quite differently at any rate. We are all building with the end user in mind. For players that come to us having a problem after mixing big mod packages, there are potentially thousands of possible file data/content discrepancies. |

Wouldn't it be a great gift for the community if GW and NYGM would stop the competition and team up to have some kind of merge.
But these big modding "companies" probably not going to do that, they became as rigid and unflexible as UbiSoft, too many people afraid for their job, and looking at their love baby through pink glasses :p |

I'm afraid that I have to disagree with both your statements because since there are differences in the philosophy and features between the two big modpacks (and this will probably become more evident in the future), a merge would have to sacrifice some features of each. Why deprive this from the community? For your unflexibility point, I don't really think that there is a comparison between a software company and a company of friends. I mean, I understand the flexibility that one experienced modder can offer to his own personal game, merging 50 different mods, solving out conflicts and deciding on features, in order to get his game running exactly right. But I think both NYGM and GW are listening very closely and supporting their users in an efficient manner, since they know how to deal with their issues. The alternative to this (and I'm having in mind the new / returning player to SHIII) would be a mess of hundreds of combinations of mods with no support / updates and of possibly questionable integration quality. And also that would not be feasible since one man cannot do this alone There's nothing wrong with having two major mods for this great game (and a handful of independent modding gurus that dare to go where no-one has gone before). It's just the natural way of things going forward. ![]() |

Personally, I like choice. Both mods have their own philosophies which differ. Even the target audience is different (NYGM for the more realism focussed, GW for the more broader player).
What you are saying Drebbel is (figuratively speaking) akin to asking Pepsi and Coke to merge. Or Holden and Ford. Or perhaps more accurately Maccas and KFC...etc...etc... Competition, be it perceived or real, usually results in a better product. And the product is the bottom line. Give me two, three, four products and let me choose the one(s) I want. ![]() Last edited by JScones; 06-29-06 at 07:50 AM. |
