In my second patrol with GW 1.0, I finally lost contact with the convoy I have been stalking through heavy storms for the last 7-8 days in-game - it zigged when I zagged
![]() As I was heading back to where I figured it had to have gone, I got a radio report of several individual ships and small convoys in that general location. It appeared from the constant radio traffic I was getting from BdU that the convoy had been hit by a wolfpack and had scattered (not kidding - even though I was assuming that the messages were just random/unrelated, it was uncanny how they continued for the last 3 days I was tracking this particular convoy and kept talking about a wolfpack gathering for an attack on a certain date, which happened to be when this particular convoy scattered like that - very cool even if just a coincidence). Anyway, I managed to catch up with a lone C-2 and put a couple of torpedoes into her as she drifted in and out of the fog/mists/rain at about 350-400m range. She eventually drifted to a stop and began listing, but I wanted to finish her off before any of the escorts decided to come poking around, so I cozied up to her so I could bring my stern tubes to bear. Suddenly, she snapped on a searchlight and fixed it on my bridge (fortunately, she was unarmed, as I had been careful to observe on my first approach). The thing I found most fascinating was that my bridge was really bathed in light by this searchlight - everybody and everything was lit up really well, and the crew were actually crouching down on the bridge (first time I ever saw that - wish they would do that when the waves come crashing over the bridge). It got me thinking - if the merchant ship's searchlights can light up our boats, is there any way to mod a searchlight onto our U-boats so we could use it to light up the target's flag for ID purposes when it's too rough to use star shells for that purpose? That would be so cool to be able to do this, at least in the early war period. Anybody know if this has been or could be modded to work?

People have tried to give the u-boats searchlights, but with no luck so far. Sorry.

I could understand the theory behind that for a single ship but even if it was possible surfaceing in a middle of a convoy? just to Id a ship in say 43 onwards it wold be suicide.
My I dea even before 43 if a Neutral is sailing under armed escort "she fair game" I just started my 6th career and got a radio message saying something like "all tankers under escort or whatever should be consider as contriband because of there cargo would be useful to the enemy or word to that effect. So I have changed in my basic .cfg any Neutral ship I sink I will not lose renown.i think by default it's -3 I chaned mine to 1. |

I also modded out the neutral renown penalty a long time ago - I am very conscientious about not going after neutrals sailing alone, so I don't need the game to enforce this particular behavior on me at the expense of getting unfairly dinged for convoy attacks.
