Default No explosions in the game?

Guys,

I started a thread regarding lack of smoke from ship funnels:

http://www.subsim.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=50450

But I have also noticed another graphical anomoly. Every time I hit a ship with a torpedo I see NO explsoions. Nothing at all. I might see the masts fall down and the vessel split in two before going under but that is it. Is this correct? From looking at the screenshots section I see lots of smoke and flames on ships that have been hit by a torpedo. But in my game I see none. Is this again a graphics card driver issue? I have an Nvidia Gf4400 128mb with drivers 52.16. My SHIII version is vanilla with patch 1.4. Help please. I want that satisfying boom at times.

I see explosions with flame, smoke and the high velocity used ship parts. Sounds like a driver issue. Make sure you have the most up to date drivers.

By the way, I like your signature. You must be an expat. I was a volunteer in Mebourne for the Commonwealth Games and had a ball.

I also use a GForce card, 5500. But I see explosions all the time. I do get the problem every now and then with the no smoke from the chimneys, but since I always see explosions, I don't think that's a GeForce card issue.

Is that the latest driver version? I have a 6800GT PCI Express on an AMD 4400+ platform (DFI SLi-DR) and my driver version is 81.95. A quick run to www.Nvidia.com says they're up to 84.21 (guess I'm behind a few months) so maybe check your version to see if you're on the latest drivers.

Game requirements state:

Quote:
-64MB (or more) DirectX 9.0c compatible graphics card with Pixel Shader 1.1 capability
Now I have a Leadtech Nvidia GeForce 4400 128mb card. I wonder if it is a case that this card does not have Pixel Shader 1.1 capability? Is this a feature which cannot be upgraded via drivers or for that matter bios update? I have to check if my card has this feature. :hmm:
