Default Hunting off Curacao?

It's late May of 42 and I just arrived off Curacao. Figured my crew could work on their tans... Anyone been here during the same time frame? I'm wondering how the hunting is. Looks good so far as I bagged a C2 within minutes of arriving. I smell oil in the air... I hope it's from tankers coming my way.

Curacao is a very nice place. Reckon there's at least a T2 if not a T3 there in that timeframe, and between the two ports to the east of Curacao there should be some two-four larger ships between the northern and southern ports. This area is rather poorly defended, I think, so hunting is good. Still, don't underestimate the results you can get half-way between Florida and Venezuela!

Well.. in december 1942 Curacao is a desert ;-) Noting there but destroyers. I was assigned to EE77 (near Port of Spain). Nothing there for a week so I decided to go to Curacao. I even entered the port. Nothing. On my way (anw way back) to Curacao I met several warship contacts. Once even my metox detected destroyer's radar.

Anyway. I was very disapointed - completely nothing in EE and ED. I was there for almost 2 weeks and I decided to go back to base because of fuel.

All my kills on this patrol was on my way to patrol grid and on my way back to base - CF, CG, DG grids.

I'm running 1.4b vanilla and had absolutely party time around here, summer '42- summer'43. After the second patrol I let everything but T2's & T3's go simply because of their abundance. You guys are doing something wrong, period.

After reading this thread I was in Curacao yesterday (May '42, IuB 1.01) and found it completely empty. Damn i wish I'd at least sunk those damn two tankers I was shadowing to avoid mines, but the game apparently removed them when they reched their last waypoint.

Is there a version of Harbour traffic that adds minor and major static ships to all ports? I think an "empty" port should still contain at least two dozens of trawlers, tugboats etc. Whoever has seen a real port should be able to agree.

So far, I've been in the area (North of the harbor) ten days and have begged a C2, two T3's, a small tanker and a Victory freighter. Have not seen any DD's, but the B-24's and Catalinas are all over the place.

All in all, the hunting seems good here and worth the trip.

I agree completely. And Scapa is a good example of a bad port to leave empty. Thing is, most computers can't handle a "realistic" amount (ten or more....) of ships in the ports.

In the end I guess it's just a matter of time, as it is all possible within the limits if the game. I mean some of us still want to be able to play it in a couple of years, won't we?
