Default Modding Harbours

Does anyone know of a way to mod harbours?

I have tried using Pack3d to open the harbour dat files. It creates the 3D direcory but there aren't any .obj files saved although they appear with the Pack3d screen.

The reason I'm asking is that I'm pretty tired of sailing from St Nazaire that looks nothing like St Nazaire - where are the locks, the famous drydock etc etc? Game version - sail out of the pen and out to the big blue?????

The 3D objects for the harbours are stored in
\data\Library\harbor_kit.dat
but that are only the 3D buildings, cranes, subpens etc., the harbour layout for each port is stored in
\data\Terrain\Locations\*.dat
and is based on a data structure like the XRef system from 3DSMax. To edit the layout you need the (promised) harbour_tile kit from Ubisoft and the build script or whatever tool the devs used to design the layout and packed it in a *.dat file.

OK, Seeadler. Thanks for your reply. Appears to be a non-starter then

Mmmm... Wouldn't it be possible to use the existing tiles and only reorganise them so the port layout is more or less reproduced. In Bordeaux by example I would like to totally reorganise the harbor appearance.

If I understand what you mean by existing tiles - I have taken the existing models and layed them out differently but I found that piers/jetties overlapped, lighthouses appeared in the wrong positions etc etc. What it needs is the ability to completely model, for example, St Nazaire, with its lock, drydock etc. I have been there and the model in SHIII bears no resemblance to reality.

The annoying thing is that the developers, as part of their sales pitch, promised the means to do this, but they haven't honoured that commitment. All power to developers (I'm one) but if you say you will make something available pre-sales, then you do it.

I think you are flogging a very dead horse with this one. This post that you have bumped was made a sticky (oh controversy ) for some time, but the general opinion was, I think, that without the tool nothing could be done. I noticed, reading the interview with SHIV team, a graphic showing harbour editing (I think). Perhaps with SHIV and backwards compatible would be good

Regards

There are no problems to make it. Only it needs a lot of time.
Is better to have special 3D program in which it would be possible to construct
harbor structure visually.
In a folder ../data/Terrain/Locations there are dat-files (for example Alexandria.dat)
in which there are blocks Type11/1 which describe position 3D objects which
geometry is in the file ../data/Library/Harbor_kit.dat (harbor object library).
Such structure allows to save computer resources.
