Hi Buddies:
I’m a newbee here, no doubt, but have been infected by the subsim bacillus in such a way that my wife is already seriously thinking about shooting my PC down! Anyway, my question is: How do you make new models for DW? Is there software for it? Will they be controllable as to play with them? I sincerely appreciate your patience and answers. Lonebiker.

Hi,
The best way to start modeling is to do a search and get and learn GMAX. GMAX is free modeling software very similiar to 3ds Max. By playing with Gmax you will see if you want to continue with modeling without actually having to put any investment into expensive software. Once you learn the Gmax, and you decide that modeling is for you, then you need to secure a copy of 3ds Max version 3.0 or 3.1, and use the exporter (note the exporter does not work with newer versions of Max) to make the model usable in game, as well as then edit the text files that give the model its operational characteristics. You will not be able to make "Controllables"; Sonalyst has said they will allow AI models/scenery to be added, however they want the ability to follow the game up with new controllables for expansion paks if interest in the game is high enough to make it viable. Good Luck! Beer

Hey Beer there is nothing to stop him making a new model of a controllable platform.
I have a couple of new Akulas almost ready to go once I can figure out how to setup the pivot points on the torp doors, and get someone to paint it and J3D it. I also have 688 and Seawolf to but the above problem. What Jamie meant was that we couldn't make new playable units a la jsteed's playable sub changer for Sub Command as that would require hacking the dlls and exe and SCS wouldn't like that to happen with DW this time around. |

I develop 3DSMax extensions among other things in MaxScript and pure 3DSMAx plugins in C++ for industrial companies. Perhaps I can change the exporter to work with Max v5/6/7. |

best thing in that case would be to ask Jamie by sending him a private message.
I'd prefer one that works with 3DS MAX ver 4.X |

I would love an exporter that works with Max 5 or 5.1...
I modeled for Strike Fighters P-1, and then was looking forward to modeling in DW, however I can't bring myself to reload Max 3.1. I stopped playing SFP-1 (WOV), so modeling wise I am all stop, unless a exporter for DW for Max 5.x comes around. Cheers Beer
