Always thought there was something missing from the deck gun sound - ejecting brass, so I added some.
Opinions? Worthy of upload (one file only, P09_$Gun_muzzle_flash.wav is the sound used for all cannon larger than the 40mm), needs more work, throw it over the side? Honest opinions, insults, marriage proposals and death threats equally welcome. ![]() |

Uploaded, JGSME ready. Only a single sound file so shouldn't have any conflict with other mods, although I don't use 1.5 so I don't know if the U-boat deck guns use the same sound or not. If not, permission granted for whoever wants to replace Das Boot's cannon sound with this and upload. Usual copyright, bend fold staple and mutilate, it's freeware who cares.
DISCLAIMER: This mod is unlikely to get your dog pregnant, but you never know. ![]() EDIT: Forgot the link; http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/down...o=file&id=5454 Last edited by Sniper297; 03-31-19 at 05:31 PM. |

Interesting, so you're telling me the 88s and 105s on the U-boats use the exact same sound file as all the US and IJN cannon? Gotta run some tests, I hear the clang from IJN cruisers and destroyers when close up in external view, but not from a distance. Wild guess for now;
Close sound: P09_$Gun_muzzle_flash.wav Distant sound: Cannon.wav To check that I'll change Cannon.wav to something weird like a banshee wail from Oblivion or something, then pop up to the surface in the middle of a task force so they can blast away at me. BANZAI! ![]() |

Actually, your mod is heard even when warships are firing
![]() That’s a problem in my opinion...just try the single mission « test of Nagato » and you will understand what i mean...

Nothing can be done about that, other than to do the same as this mod;
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/down...o=file&id=5178 Activate or deactivate depending on what you're intending to play. Test shows that cannon.wav is not actually used at all in the game, anything in 1.4 larger than a 40mm uses P09_$Gun_muzzle_flash.wav and nothing else. Looking at them in a sound editor, the waveforms are actually identical, only difference being a few milliseconds of silence added so the new file is 1KB larger. Both files were made in 2003, April and September, so both are leftovers from SHII or SHIII. There are quite a few of those, cleaning up and deleting unused files before release apparently wasn't a big priority. |

My last post "anything in 1.4 larger than a 40mm" got me curious, so I started fooling around with other PO files, found that P02_$MGun_muzzle_flash.wav is used for both the 20mm Oerlikon and 40mm Bofors. Both sound okay to me, but if anyone else wants to play with it that's the file.

Version 2 uploaded;
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/down...o=file&id=5465 75% sounds best to me, but according to taste there are 4 "clang" volume options; 100% 75% 50% 25% I tried out 125% for those whackos who like really loud clangs, but then you couldn't hear the bang at all so I left that out. ![]() |
