Default King Tiger startup and drivepast

The only running example. Also check out the clip of "Tiger 131"... even better.

One of my favourites, I still remember going to that exhibit first on my visits to Bovington

The video must have ended just before it broke down then.

An impressive beast though, Henschel turret I think? I prefer the Porsche version, but the shot trap and thinner armour is a problem. Impratical but impressive, although not as much as the Maus.

My favourite Wehrmacht beastie is this:

Although it's a tight fit on the inside and the optics are a bit hit and miss, but that Maybach engine!

You'd not have said that if you were in a Sherman going one on one with it. Even the up-gunned 76 would bounce from the front, you could get the Porsche turret from the side, but Henschel, forget it.

Of course, the best weapon against an isolated Tiger II is manoeuvrability, flank it and hope that you can pen it or get the crew to bail somehow.

The best weapon against a Tiger II is three Shermans. Or T-34s. "Quantity has a quality all its own" as Joseph Stalin said. Or quite possibly didn't.

Another example of Hitler's thinking..

Tiger 1 good start.

Tiger 2 yea bigger better.

Maus yea right on baby that's what we need.

When you are on the defensive and losing the war you don't wast money on that rubbish.

Better off building more Stug's and panzerfausts, cheaper to build and faster.

Wasn't someone in Germany not too long ago hiding one of those in their basement?

And a torpedo IIRC, one can only hope that they are being given to a museum, but one can never really tell in todays world. Wasn't that long ago that I saw a museum in France having to sell off a lot of its WWII stuff because it had run into financial difficulties. Sad state of affairs really.

Hopefully Bovington will remain a viable concern.

That place needs a dam good shake up if they have not done it yet. I remember my first trip as a kid back in the 1970's and my second trip over 5 years ago and the place had not changed apart from the shop that went down hill big time. I don't want to see it close but it's a bitch to get to and it needs a fresh look.

June 2015 in Heikendrof (a 70 year-old man). He'd actually been seen driving around in it in 1978. Some chick-magnet, huh?
