Default Howdy from UK

Howdy subsimmers.

Somehow, after ~10 years this game is back on my sonar.
Well, to be honest a friend of mine was talking about world of warships and it got me thinking "what was that incredible sub sim I used to play with an american friend?". A google search later and I'm purchasing SH3 on steam. I remember reading SH4 wasn't a patch on 3, and I completely missed 5, and reading this morning about it seems I wouldn't of gotten my moneys worth out of it.

Back then I had no idea of mods and was a little green with PC gaming having only come to it 2 or 3 years previously. I most certainly had never played a sim before and I was hooked.
Time marches on and after a few months I was probably back on the most recent COD or whatever.

I've since been a big fan of sims like Elite dangerous, ARMA, Iracing etc. I like my games with a little more substance these days. And I can't tell you how real the nostalgia is to get back into this.

I do however have a question, a question that is likely asked by every bloody new sign up, I'm afraid. Yep, you've guessed it!

What are the best mods to start out with? Sorry

Also, is the SHO online I ha e just discovered worth playing (I really don't have a lot of time these days, a couple hours weekdays, maybe a few hours on a Sunday).

Anyways, sorry for the wall of text! Can't wait to get the game installed and hope its as good as Iremember!

Cheers
Nige

Cheers, lads!

I'm afraid it was a fruitless night. Turns out LSH3 doesn't like spaces in the title. Steam names the final folder with 3 spaces.

Fixed that issue and even got steam to still launch the game despite editing the spaces out in the folder (Edit the appmanifest file did the trick).

LSH3 all installed, wide-screen GUI enabled. Launched the game and was giddy to see the new splash screen and menu proving the mod was working.

I then moved the screen to the big TV, plugged the speakers in, grabbed a beer and prepared to set up (hopefully) the new steam controller for it.

Relaunched the game, grabbed a crafty hen to drink, click the mission, it began loading, only to stall with the loading bar all red...for ages.... Eventually realised it had crashed, swore abit.

Tried again, same thing. So called it a night.

Any ideas?

Never mind. Got the game working with LSH3 tonite. The wide-screen mod won't launch with steam however.

Welcome aboard. and in answer to your other question, I wouldn't bother with SH online, the devs have all but abandoned it and it was in no way a "Subsim" really
