Selection of U-boats with SH3C

I have recently started using SH3 commander for SH3 and I think its a great tool but I have to ask, I have heard players in this forum talk about things like using the type XXI as early as 1940-41, and I would like to know how I can do this myself if anyone knows, I dont want the type XXI or anything, but maybe a IXD-2 in 1940-41 would be nice.

If any of you know a way to make this possible toss me a line yeah?
