I run the latest TMO+RSRD+TRAVELLER MODS.
I have seen huge wave sea states and whipping winds so it does happen. I have had it so rough I can barely use the TDC ... It will keep throwing me back into the boat because we are so underwater while actually on the surface. The sea can get very rough. |

Well, the game basically limits wind at 15mps which is the basic switch for waves.
Wind speeds can hit max in clear weather, so no way to tie a wave pattern to a storm only. You cetainly can mod bigger waves, but who wants 50 ft swells on a sunny day. You could change storm sounds to be more drastic, some mods do this.

Waterspouts are cool looking too, I've seen them off the carolina coast. Front moving off shore and sun still beaming on the other half of horizon.
But again with the complex coding and script to make this happen. ![]() Fith |

These are some waves/swells I did long ago. You have to find a balance, because even these made it about impossible for the sub to stay surfaced, often you would go under and the eletrics would cut on, so your speed can really vary. The other issue is it can wreck some ships and slow them way down as well. All that would be well and good in a storm, but again, due to code, you get same waves on a clear day.
It is cool having them during a storm, along with some great wind and thunder sound files. Think I even used one file that had the sound of a large water spout. ![]() ![]()

Huge waves are not unrealistic on a sunny day. I can remember days when I was in the Navy where it was a bright sunny day and we had 15 and 20 foot swells and other days where the sea was perfectly calm but the rain was going completely sideways with a 60 knot wind.
The sea can be completely predictable and completely unpredictable. Mod away I say ... no matter how it comes out I bet the oceans have shown it one way or another. |

I wish we could add another weather pattern, can't. Yes, you can increase waves, but it can be a pain using TC, because you constantly submerged and surface every few seconds. Large waves will also destroy ships in dock, not a major issue.
I've played with different patterns in the past. SS can make waves look a tad funny, but you don't notice it really in game when movement is fluid. I recall I was trying to get green highlights in the water here, tad larger waves, but very choppy. ![]() Here I recall trying to make more random large waves that had some roll. The cap was a little blockly, but again, you don't really notice it in game. ![]() These I got a more narrow cap with a nicer foam cap, but not really rougher than waves in most env mods. ![]() ![]() The ones I posted before were more large rolling swells. Basically impossible to use scope submerged.

Of course not!
After a storm/cyclone here, waves can take couple of days to calm down, and sky is clear again.

![]() That last shot with the S-boat rolling is really something! Looks like it would really be struggling to make headway. This is something I always considered to be lacking in SH4, real weather difficulties. |

The latest version of Traveller mod v2.3 has large waves. And ships no longer take damage and/or sink from these large waves. Not even Sampans.
![]() And Armistead, I really like your large rolling swells. My large waves are more choppy, but I think in the next version release I might make them rolling like yours. Last edited by Traveller; 05-05-13 at 10:52 AM. |

I think large swells look better and don't seem to cut the speed as much using TC.

I set all ship zone crash speeds to zero. That is what was causing them to take damage when the large waves made them drop below the hard-coded depth level. The ships still sink fine and disappear when attacked. The one main side-effect is crews of smaller shallow-draft ships disappearing in high waves (think of it as them taking shelter inside the cabin

If the mod had the waves cutting the speed I would leave it in .. it is more realistic. I wouldn't mind seeing more boat motion and wave affect on course. We had days at the helm where I would have to swim the rudder back and forth from 10-15 degrees port then 10-15 degrees starboard just to keep us fairly straight and on course.
