Default Screen Resolution Question

I have been a away for quite a while. Was thinking of getting back into DW, loved this sim dearly years ago. I seem to remember there were issues installing it on modern systems with respect to the game not supporting widescreen resolutions. Is this still the case? Can this game be viewed properly in widescreen resolution?

I let the Nvidia Control Panel scale the max supported resolution (1280x1024 iirc) to my 1920x1080 maintaining aspect ratio (4:3). So I get some black bands on the sides, but it looks propperly.
