Windows update bubble keeps coming back
I have Windows XP with SP3. Today I got the yellow bubble saying there were updates to be installed. There are three of them. I let it install. I didn't have to reboot. A couple minutes later it came back. It installed the same three updates again. No reboot was needed. A couple minutes later it came back. I rebooted after it installed for the third time. Even after the reboot it comes back. If I shut down the computer it installs the three updates during shut down. This has never happened before. Is something wrong with the latest update? If it doesn't go away I'm going to turn off automatic updates. I don't really want do that, though.

Havent seen this problem recently - but it wouldnt be the first time.
Do you have admin rights to the machine? Also - what updates are they? if they are not critical - just "hide" em.

I'm the only one that uses it, so I got admin rights. I don't remember what the updates were exactly. I think one was the malicious software tool, the other a .Net Framework update, and maybe a security update. I haven't seen the bubble come back after I clicked cancel this morning after bringing it up. I hope it stays gone.

I had this yesterday, it was 3 x Critical Updates for Net Framework. Auto updates just kept looping through download and installs.
I let this happen 3 times before disabling autoupdates, renaming the SoftwareDistribution folder in C:/Windows and manually attempting the update. If memory serves, the manual update still failed/looped but I am no longer plagued with the update notification. The usual fix for this issue is to roll back to a date before the update notification, I couldn't attempt that as this is a server based network PC with no roll back facility.
