Default Legendary blues singer Etta James dies at 73

http://news.yahoo.com/legendary-blue...163709371.html

Yesterday Johanny Otis, today Etta James; two blows to the music world. She was an amazing vocalist who brought her own touch to every song she sang. In the Chuck Berry bioography/documentary film "Hail! Hail! Rock And Roll!", there is a scene where Keith Richards is trying to convince Chuck to allow Etta to perform at the tribute concert Keith is organizing. Chuck, who has really very little interest in others but himself, opposes the idea because he can't place Etta in his memory. Keith arranges for Etta to perform at a rehearsal in front of Chuck. Chuck sits off stage, in a mild sulk, as Etta begins to sing a song she has never performed, let alone rehearsed. As Etta starts to sing in that glorious, powerful voice of hers, Chuck begins to awaken to just who is Etta james. By the end of the number, Chuck has been on his feet, dancing around and almost literally bowing down before Etta. After the number, he apoligizes to Etta, saying, "I'm so sorry! I didn't know!" over and over again...

There are few who are really one of a kind; Etta James was one of those people. Thank you, Etta, for being you. Rest well and find peace "At Last"...

Wow. I didn't realize she was that young. The article says she was only 15 when she was discovered by...Johnny Otis!

Cool connections, sad news.

There are few blues/soul artists or songs I like, Etta singing I'd Rather Go Blind, are two.

I'm sure if I looked through her back catologue I'd find some more, but to me that song is Etta's.

RIP

This hit my "death comes in 3s" suspicion.

What American musical pioneer is next?

"I'd Rather Go Blind" Live 1987:

"At Last" Live 2009:

(Even failing health, unable to stand, sitting on her little scooter, she delivers more power, depth, and emotion than all the other modern "divas" and their screeching histrionics. Again, thanks and RIP, Etta James...
