Default USS Drum restoration photos

http://www.drum228.org/restoration.html

Time, weather, and rust was not kind to this boat. Not at all.

Hats off to those who are restoring the Drum.

Years back she was beached by a hurricane and remained that way for a good while. Maybe someday she can be put into a shelter out of the weather. She had quite a record during the war, almost got sunk once, would be a shame to lose her now.

I think we have seen her 2 times when we will go through Mobile, her and the battleship Alabama (which needs work as well).

She was in bad shape but she is slowly being repaired.

Some amazing restoration work. Hats off to the people involved for keeping history alive.

It has been over thirty years since I saw the Drum. We lived in Louisiana for a few years and I had a chance to see her along with the Alabama. She was still in the water then.

I remember seeing some pictures afew years ago after she was pulled out of the water and seeing what poor condition she was in.

Hard work, made even harder by inconsistent funding. Not that anybody here knows anything about that.

I was over there in November(only 50 miles or so from my hometown) the work they have done is amazing, the old Drum was in bad shape the year before when I visited, much progress. Will prob go visit again here soon.Def needs an attack scope put in as well as torpedo fire control panel in the conning tower(if possible) but the exterior work they have done is amazing.
