Default Damn. Hit a mine.

Well, after giving up waiting in the mouth of the channel for a warship that never came, I cruised up around the west cost of Ireland and was north of England when I was alerted to a convoy south of me in shallow water.

I hammered in at flank speed to intercept at high TC, and suddenly there was the sound of spraying water and "death by collision".

I don't know what I hit. I was on the surface. I can only assume it was a mine? Do mines show as "death by collision"?

Yup it sounds like a mine, didnt think they showed up as "death by collision" though, either way thats bad luck.
The annoying thing is that if you had hit it at 1*tc you would probably have been able to save your boat, in the time it takes for the tc to drop to realtime the flooding has usually gotten too much to repair. Its still not good if you strike a mine at 1* speed but at least you can usually pump out the water and limp home.

Heres one I almost hit:

That one was by gibraltar they got a whole field of'em, by the time I noticed I was in the center of it. They set those ones deep (at least 30m)

When I attack harbors I do it in real time. And after hitting enough nets I use the obs. scope to see whats directly ahead of me occasionally

A whale!!!

Is that a mod or is it in GWX?

I will have to do the same when I do my harbor raiding. I read here that setting the dept of my eels to 1 meter will defeat most, if not all, nets so I no longer worry to much about my shots not reaching my target. Now I have hit them from time to time, but luckily it was at a very slow speed with minimal damage.

I did manage to use one for cover and "sunk" a Swan Class Destroyer when it hit the net trying to get to me

2.5m was the depth I used for gibraltar. It cleared every net, but I don't know if all nets are the same depth. I will experiment with that setting and try to find out the deepest depth that a torpedo can clear a net.

I have done that, and tried to in gibaltar. Problem was asw trawlers run shallow and run the nets I took a direct hit and it disabled me and I slammed to the bottom, I managed to get an engine repaired and made my escape.

I scraped the boat in favor of a Type IXC, which has been good to me. I just wish the New interior mod was out for them because it's small in there.
