When SH4 came out, was it available on Steam on release-day (and pre-loading)? I'm gonna buy SH5, and if the price is right and if it's available on release-day I think I'm going for the Steam version, and maybe a DVD-CE later, when the price drops.
But if Steam-price=DVD-price, and no Steam pre-loading, I'm going for the DVD-version. Last edited by dangrey; 02-25-10 at 07:39 AM. |

Its not even listed on steam right now. And its 2 weeks away. So I would say no it won't be.
They have a preview video though. ![]() Anyway I had a 55 dollar gamestop gift card I have been saving just for this game, and that is what I used to order it online with and have it overnighted. |

It being on Steam is a mix of a publisher and developer's issue. First and foremost, the publisher must be interested and make the move. And second, it requires additional development time (mostly programming) to adapt it to the Steam systems.
Curiously enough, I think one of the SH5 trailers was on Steam... who knows. ![]() Cheers |

If it's released on Steam, I might reconsider. Steam runs its own copy protection scheme, which allows for offline gaming, and they remove any current DRM in the games. It would make a strong case for me in buying it, in spite of any other gripes I may have with the game.

Not me, I dont want a heavily modded game on Steam, Empire: Total War is frustrating me to bits. I want a DVD with standard DRM so I can play when I want, add/delete files when I want without someone telling me via interwebs what to do. Is that age gone? Well, then I will play "old" games. SH5 will have to be so over the top awesome for me to consider it at this point. We are talking revolutionary-cant-say-no stuff, and I just dont think it is.

Yep. Agreed about ETW. Ca took that for the first time and it`s helped make ETW the least moddable game since RTW! Modders are pretty upset about it. Also, I just don`t like the interfence from steam at all with its DRM, although it`s better than what UBI are doing. Regardless, after ETW, I refuse to buy any more Steam games.
However, I do blame the likes of Steam for this. UBI have seen Steam and how so many people seem to love it and are now pushing further to the next step : 24\7. Without Steam I doubt UBI would`ve done this. We can`t let it happen. |

I don't care if it's available on Natural Gas or Solar.
![]() I won't buy it if it has DRM. ![]() If the gaming community gives in on this whats next ? |

Firewall, I remember the same thing happened with X-Box live... People complained about how you had to buy it, yet they still did...
Its just how nowadays is gonna work in gaming, DRM is probably gonna stay for at least 2 years. |

I haven't looked much into ETW mods but are they a problem? I remember installing and playing with DarthMod or something...

Darthmod is good, but darth had to work hard to get the bits working. He was much more limited compared to RTW or MTW2. Even then darthmod can`t hide all the holes in BAI and the rest of the game. |

[QUOTE=elanaiba;1269520]I think practically every game protected by steam is "cracked".
If that happens to SHV. How is Ubisoft going to explain that. DRM is only going to hurt their sales and future reputation. BTW How do you hack or crack a game unless you buy it first ? Don't you have to have something to work with ? |
