Howdy folks. I've been on extended shore leave but now I'm reporting for duty at Pearl Harbor, ready to take a boat out on patrol again.
I see that TMO's at version 1.7 now. I have a question regarding a mod that Ducimus put is as "optional", meaning the stern deck gun. If I understand correctly, TMO will not have boats with guns mounted behind the conning tower. So if I want stern mounted deck guns, I have to install the mod. Question is, which one do I use - there's one given in the TMO main patch, and one more under Options in the hot fix. Thanks. |

Sit right back and hear a tale, a tale of a faithful trip.......
In the beginning the user had the option to select which location they wanted from within the game, and so long as they did so at the very start of a career game, all went well, and the user was happy. Then a dark cloud descended upon the player. He felt unhappy with his choice of deck gun location and decided to move it. The game however, looked at choice of deck gun location as a compartment, and having already written to file to file this layout, couldn't understand the sudden change in deck gun location. To the player it would act, "Im looking for a gun here, i see no gun there!". The dark cloud then proceeded to pour fourth rain upon the players day, cries of anguish were then plastered upon the forums, to the tune of, "Dude! Where's my gun crew?!?!". Modders everywhere found this bit of news most disconcerting. Labor and toil for a fix all they could, but no answer could be found. Then one modder, said unto himself, "well, we could just explain that once you make a choice at the beginning of the career game, the choice is rather permanent unless you feel like editing your saved game files.". The modder thought about it awhile, hoping that maybe by relating this info, he could somehow help others avoid this most horrendous of bugs. So relay the information he did, and yet, despite our intrepid modders forewarnings, users continued to swap deck guns around mid career. Clearly another solution must be found. "Ah HA!" said the intrepid modder, "I know! I'll protect the users from themselves!". Rolling his sleeves, and his eyes, he set to work, on yet another project. The solution was simple. Make it so either one location of deck gun exists in the game, or the other location - never both at once, save for the one lone exception of the Narwhal. The location chosen was the bow, since thats what most users preferred. However, our weary modder, anticpating colorful vindictive being directed at his person, decided to make an optional mod for mounting the location at the stern. Tired and weary from his endeavors, our modder gave breif descriptions here or there, assuming that most people would understand that deck gun location is a one OR the other decision at the begninning of the game, since changing deck gun locations mid game, will only cause issues. In the end, users continued to be confused, and our modder feeling utterly burnt out on the issue, opted instead to just avoid it. As confusion persists, it should be noted that the hotfix optional mod, is an update to the original optional mod. The end user would be best served by merging the update included into the hotfix, with the orginal optional mod, overwrting the older file. Ahh, the deck gun bug. It is truly a sad and sordid tale. A tale of great expectations, poor choices, anguish, and confusion. I hope you've enjoyed tonights campfire story. Tune in next time, same bat time, same bat channel! |

So the moral of the story is, once the location of the gun is chosen provided the game gives one the option of bow or stern mounted, don't shift it? What if I opt to get a new command & I'm fitting out my new boat? I guess that should be ok provided I don't shift the position in subsequent refits?
Thanks Duci for your work on TMO. |
