GWX 3.0 MP Mission Freeze

I am trying to get a mission multiplayer game up with my mate so we can have some fun with the new missions inlcuded with GWX 3.0. Problem is that whenever we try them, the game freezes. it freezes at exactly the point when the screen switches between 'Not so long ago...' and the game (the result being that text and the Command Room being slightly visible). on the other hand, generated missions work perfectly. Any ideas on what might be the problem?

Also I tried to turn the firewall off, ran it as admin (Vista), tried after reboot but none worked. Also I have a fairly strong PC so I doubt that is the problem.
