Default Gato Roll

Seems the gato rolls to much. Maybe this is the real roll effects and rate, but I think the roll rate is over done for the gato in silent hunter4.

After testing for hours, I find that changing of the center of gravity from 2.82 to 2.52 makes the rolls seems natural. You can make the sub almost have no roll by moving the number to like 0.12.

I tried changing the global wave attenuation, but then certain visual effects no longer looked right. Such as other ships wave crashing and rolls seemed to weak after modifying wave attenuation. In addition, lessening the wave attenuation made the pitching of boats (at least gato) to be too small. Best to change the center of gravity on each boat, then attempting a wave behavior modification.

Welcome aboard.
And a heck of an introduction.

The supermods alter the pitch & roll of the boat, and I think there are a few standalone mods dealing with it as well. You could always release your own mod, if you prefer your personal tweaks.

yep, all you want to change is the center of gravity (and FYI that number is in meters) so your only changing how the sub acts

changing other things can have very unintended side effects

Welcome to the forum.

An other thing that affect the pitch and roll is the water speed.
I made a small change in the Litefog V2 mod that have slower water and it affected the pitch and roll in a very positive way. Somehow it looks more natural for the subs

data\Submarine\NSS_Gato.sim is the file.

11: unit_Submarine
-> obj_Hydro
-> Debug
-> gc_height

Is the data structure to modify using Silent 3ditor

gc_height = the center of gravity

to put it simply its in meters and is how far above the waterline your center of gravity is
