Default Scapa Flow: when to enter to find battleships?

I decided to open up my career in a big way and slipped into Scapa Flow following Prien's path on September the 4th 1939. Unfortunately I found no capital ships there ,only destroyers and smaller ships were present. At least I managed to sink a troop ship and a modern tanker and as many as three Tribal destroyers on my way out. Two or three more destroyers ran aground trying to get me so it was a really bad day for Home Fleet destroyers But I really wanted one big guy as a nice career opening.. Do you know when I should try again ?

Well in GWX 2.1 and 3.0 the Royal Oak is in Scapa Flow on the official date Prein sunk her. Although in 2.1 she was well west of her real position about mid harbour.

Read this account of mine for more information!

Not really an answer to your question, but I do know that early on (probably October or November of 1939) the HMS Hood and HMS Rodney are in the Firth of Clyde. Its hard to get in there and even harder to get out once you put fish into them, took me quite awhile to do it right.

Can anyone decipher those strange codes of locations at campaign files? I can see a lot of entries showing ships docked somewhere but those -768676 etc longitudes are confusing.

I have found a nice entry:

Name=HMS Hood#3
Class=BCHood
Type=10
Origin=British
Side=1
Commander=0
CargoExt=-1
CargoInt=-1
CfgDate=19380101
DeleteOnLastWaypoint=false
DockedShip=true
GameEntryDate=19390906
GameEntryTime=2200
GameExitDate=19390908
GameExitTime=600
EvolveFromEntryDate=false
Long=-360690.000000
Lat=7071285.000000
Height=0.000000
Heading=141.339996
Speed=0.000000

The location seems to be very similar to the Royal Oak so it looks like that HMS Hood will be at Scapa Flow between September 6th 22 hrs and September 8th 06 hrs. Going to check it out today..

It could be true - I remember I found once task force or rather three capital ships (BB) sailed from Liverpool area into Scapa Flow. Later on I met and sunk both of them in Scapa Flow

I have found the Hood and the Renown at Scapa on September the 6th/7th . Very nice if you play for the first time but I don't feel ok sinking the sitting ducks. It is a much bigger satisfation to get them at sea. Moreover I hit the Hood 4 times and she took heavy listing ,landed on shallow bottom but due to some bug I didn't get any credit. That's it, no more Scapa Flow entries for me, too boring and takes too much time.

BTW the Renown's tonnage is not realistic. The game shows 48 000 tons but her real one was 30 k.

It will be very difficult to find any battleship in a campaing but if you find her, she will navegate at 25 knots - not less - therefore you will able to see and that´s all mate

Regards
