Im not so sure its 'human nature' rather more a product of our contemporary society.

When they stop keeping score for jr league baseball games.

When they give out ribbons for last place.

When they say "its okay to lose".

yes its okay to lose but learn from it, buck up and do better next time.

But for a society that lives by the motto of "the winner takes it all, the loser has to eternally fall and it's his own fault, always" (an attitude that reaches even as far as into the political voting system), this is hard to accept.
