A Comforting Face in a Dangerous Place

Down here in Texas, as most of you can imagine (I know Neal can vouch with me), the hurricane has been stirring up some trouble. I went down to the local Burger King today and ordered a Loaded Steakhouse Burger. I looked out the window at the drive through, and saw this lost kitten down by the bushes.

After picking up the food, I asked the attendant if he'd seen the cat before. Apparently, it had been there for several days (three or four). I drove back around and parked towards the east end of the lot, got out of the car, and finally trapped the kitten.

He's a Siamese, probably about a month and a half old. Poor guy had oil on his head, but I cleaned him off when we got home. His tail is broken and his leg has a gash in it. He's so skinny that I can feel all his vertebrae and his ribcage. He's also pretty ill. Friendly little guy, but I'm worried about him. He's not doing too well. He's sleeping right now. It's about 4:15 AM here, and I should probably join him for the night, lol.

I'll get some pictures up tomorrow when I get my camera working.

Take care of it, and see a doctor. Well done to accept the responsibility! Don't write that kitten off too early, for it could prove to be sturdy (cats have nine lives...): broken bones can heal, and if it has no damage to it's organs and no virus infection, with patience, caretaking and some love you have a fair chance to save it.

Make sure you go to a vet's with it (and be prapared for the bill). Then try to learn as much about cats as possible (read books, ask people who have cats etc.) and you might have a new friend in no time.

Feel free to PM me with any questions, myself and my girlfriend take in cats all the time

This is Semtex, who was a few months old and a bag of bones when we found him. Since been rehomed.

And this is Rasputin, destroyer of socks :p. He likes to sleep on the keyboard while I'm gaming.

I will concur with both Skybird and Schroeder in saying that it is imperative that you take the cat to a competent veterinarian as soon as humanly possible.

Jesus, don't let my Rose hear about a stray cat. We're already in the process of being adopted by cat number 3. That's quite enough.

Tchocky that second cat looks similar to one of ours. Except ours has a white spot on his chest. He also likes to get on my desk and mess with my keyboard, likes socks and sleeps on my head.:rotfl:

I love stories like this, Stealth Hunter. My own cat "Cat#2" is sleeping in the shade right now, as its one billion degrees outside. I`ll post a pic of the little bastard later.

I read in the paper the other day that someone had thrown a kitten on a barbeque during a party. You have to seriously sick to to something like that.

A siamese. Hope you have toys to keep it occupied. I love them but they are so naughty.

An excellent read, thank you.

A friend of mine used to be blessed with a black female he called Lucretia McEvil, after the old Blood, Sweat & Tears song. She was highly intelligent, and highly evil, and I could fill a small book with stories of her antics, such as getting in a tree and yowling to be rescued, only to immediately scramble back up and do it again.

But one thing alway sticks in my mind, and that was the day she 'died'.

I was visiting and was in my friend's office talking to him. Being temporarily bored, I wandered out to the living room, only to see poor Lucy lying in the middle of the floor, legs crossed and eyes half open, looking every bit like a dead cat. I crouched down beside her and said her name: no response. I nervously reached out to feel if she was warm or cold. When I touched her, her tail twitched just a little. I called her name again and she sat up to be petted, tail twitching quite rapidly now. I then got up to move to a chair, thinking that maybe she had just been asleep in that position and my misunderstanding had been accidental. No such luck. No sooner had I moved away than she lay right back down in the exact same position, patiently waiting for her next victim.

Cat humor amazes me sometimes.

Well, we found Semtex lying in the porch looking suspicious, so it seemed a natural name

And as for Raspy, he's pitch black and mischevious beyond belief. His most recent game is to leap on my head as I climb the stairs

Well done to Stealth Hunter and the other Cat rescuers out there.

Our Come'eer is a rescued cat, my son found her at a rural landfill, she still had her milk-eyes and was near to death. She needed a fair bit of cat maintenance from the local vet but it was worth it. We got her by default over my wife's strident objections at about 4-months when he moved overseas to work. That was some three years ago.

I don't like her name and so usually just call her Cat or sometimes when she's being a pest, THC, short for The Hated Cat.

Semtex is a really good name for a cat!
