[REQ] AN/APR-1 Radar Reciever for US Fleet Boats

Hey guys,

I was wondering if anyone has tried to model the AN/APR-1 radar warning reciever for the US side of the game. Now that the expansion is out, and the german subs have their equivalent, would it be possible to export that to the US side of the game as a stand in?

Some info on the outfitting of the AN/APR-1

-USS Razorback had one fitted after commisioning in August 1944.

-USS Tang was fitted with one between her second and third war patrols, prior to June 8, 1944.

I also have wondered about the lack of radar detection capability on US boats, given that that technology should be simpler that active radar units. If historically accurate as you point out, I think this would be a use full addition.

Also useful would be enemy AI reaction to ownship active emmisions.

As far as emmissions, I don't know if that is possible (I haven't played much of the German side of the expansion, so I'm not sure). The SD modeled in game in not detectable, since it is not player controlled. Tang in her third & forth war patrols rarely used the SD since it could be detected. O'Kane relied on the good ole' Mark 1 Eyeballs.

Player controlable/detectable SD would be the greatest thing since sliced bread in SH4.

Here is a pic of an SD reciever from the USS Cod (I'm guessing it's a post war SD-5, as according to this site).

Here is a pic of an APR-4 (redesignated by US Air Force, basically the same an AN/APR-1).

I've been searching through the UPCUnitsData/Upgradepacks file, and the germans definitely have a RWR system in place. I have no idea as to how to transfer this to the fleet boats without breaking anything (possibly). If someone could explain this to me (especially if something compareable has been done in the past, and could send me a link to the thread), I could make this JSGME compatible for release.

The only thing that is totally out of my league would be placing an actual receiver on the conning tower shears.
