Have these things been fixed?
Hi all,
I was thinking about getting back into SH4 after an absence and just had a couple of quick questions. I know there have been many patches and mods and the game is way better now then before, but was there ever a fix for the periscope not being adjustable in height? (ie. you hit the periscope icon and it just went to full up, so if you wanted it just above the waves you had to adjust the depth of the sub) And was anything ever done (patch or mod) about the really big flags on enemy ships? (as in made smaller or more realistic at least?) Sorry if these have been answered previously. I looked through the mods, etc and didn't see these addressed directly so I thought I would take the lazier route! ![]() Thanks all! Dale |

The periscope always worked correctly for me from the beginning.
As far as I know, the flags are the same size. Hard to believe you did not play because of flag size.

Nope, didn't stop playing just because of these things. I got SH4 when it first came out and had all the anti-aliasing probs, etc., that was why I had quit playing originally. The flags and periscope things were just secondary, (although it sounds like maybe I was the periscope problem!
![]() Anyway, I am looking forward to trying SH4 again. I was a huge Silent Service fan way back on my trust C64, and really miss the Pacific. Thanks, Dale |

All the patches have improved the game 10 fold. The mods have improved it 100 fold. It is the only game I play.

Ok, I am sold!
One more question then, from everything I have read here, it sounds like the best mods to start out with after I patch to 1.4 are JSGME, RFB 1.4 and RSRDC. Is there any others that I may want to start with in your opinion? Thanks, Dale |

Clicking on the periscope icon has always been an all-up, all-down thing. That's not a "bug", that's the way it works. To raise or lower the scopes in increments, use the keyboard (pageup/pagedown for the attack scope, insert/delete for the search scope). Again, that's the way it's always been.
P.S. holding ctrl+whicheverkey will mimic clicking on the icon. SHIII has these keyboard controls as well.

Ok, sounds like a good idea.
And thanks Seafarer for the tip on the periscope. Dale |

Also you should look into the mod called ROW Pacific Environment for added visual goodies.
