Default Does this mod pack still work with GWX 2.0/2.1?

Hi guys,

When I had the previous version of GWX installed I downloaded the "GWX Combined Skin Pack" back in September 2007. It's designed to be installed in your SH3 Commander's directory and updates the ship skins with their historical paint schemes etc.

Question is, does it still work, or is it even recommended for GWX 2.0 onwards?

It's a little under 1.7GB in size so a massive mod! I recall reading that the 'alpha channels' had been worked on giving a much more reflective look to ship's metal etc.

I don't remember who did this mod, but it's excellent work. However, if there are new paint schemes etc. in GWX2.0 I'm not sure whether to install it.

Thanks for your advice

It's not advisable to use this Skin Pack with GWX 2.0 (or later) as under the right circumstances, you could encounter CTD's.

That said, while the current skins in GWX 2.0 are not changeable via date, they are superior in appearance to the ones in the standalone pack, again Alpha Channels are used.

If you were so inclined, you could extract the textures from the standalone Skin Pack and then arrange & rename them to work with GWX 2.0 by utilising SH3Cmdr's DATE folders. This would require a knowledge of which date a certain skin would enter service.

Hi Danlisa, thanks for the quick reply.

Just to follow up - the mod contains a Date folder, and beneath that there are 34 folders titled '19390901' to '19450301'.

Beneath each of those is a 'data\Sea' folder and then 81 folders with skins for each type of vessel using TGA or DAT files.

But as you say, if the paint schemes in GWX2.0 are better I will leave this alone and remove it.

Cheers!

They are better looking but, as I said, will not change via DATE.

The problem in using the Skin Pack is that the contained DAT files are no longer the same as the versions included in GWX 2.0. Using TGA files from the pack will be fine if they are named correctly. Of course, you can also unpack the TGA files from the DAT files and use those.....blah blah.......(sorry got bored)

Sounds like hard work for minimal gain.

Carry on.

All that has to be done is extract the old tga's skins from the old DAT file and replace with the GWX 2.0 DAT files plus import those skin to it. Right.
