Okay... merchants are one thing but geese, I decided to take it to the Nips.
I stood off and waited to see if I can find the Midway Japanese task force. Found it. Managed to sneak in close enough to get the speed from tender as an escort then was able to pull off a snap shot on a Kongo Battleship. Sank that guy' ass with 4 torpedoes and hauled out of there. Now... On the way back to Midway to reload I encountered the task force on the way home. I managed to get a decent, well distant-medium range shot at an escort carrier. Here she is as big as... well... an AIRCRAFT CARRIER and I set up the attack. She does not appear as if she's zigging like the rest of the task force and appears to be on a steady course. She's off the bow about 30 degrees moving to the left. I'm guessing the speed to be about 9 knots. Yamato is off to my port side, closer than the carrier but she's zigging like crazy. I'm not wasting my 4 torperoes on him. Believe me I've tried. I lock in the carrier. I set the angle on his bow to be about 276 degrees. I take the range carefully but his flag is quite easliy seen. I make 3 ranges. I really am squinting... I WANT this fatt ass on the bottom. I enter the speed in. I have my weapon settings ready. Medium speed contact only. First shot set to zero off. Second 3 to the left. Third 2 degrees to the right. Fourth set to 1 degree to the left. I shoot and turn the scope to the left to check their wakes. Ummm..... not turning slightly to the right at all. Bastards just swim to the visible horizon and disappear. I think it's a fluke. I try it again... and again... and again... Nothing. I try switching to slower speed on the torps hoping that at higher speed I lost range. Nothing. I mean, I tried this for an hour and a half. Anyone ever hd this problem? You PC doesn't see that you have entered speed into firing solution? What am I doing wrong here? I'm not a noob at this. I'm running with Trigger Maru but I'm sure that it's not affectig my torps or is it?

I don't use TM so not sure. I had an Escort Carrier in my sight. Distance under 2000m, speed 7knts and almost 90 degees to my bow. Perfect. However from experience these ships can turn on a dime.

It wasn't hurricane-force winds but I had to stay at 50 feet for the periscope to see over the crests of waves.
Today I go back to torpedo school.... I'm going to get home and DRILL over and over again on different targets until I've got it down. How accurate is the computer at guessing speeds?

The speed calculation is only as good as your data input. ID the ship correctly. Get initial data and send to TDC. Wait about 10 seconds (over simplified here) and take the data again and send to TDC. At this point click on the little watch button and see what the attack teams says. I do this three to four times until they come up with the same kts twice. This is what I use as the speed.

I would guess that the speed is wrong. I mean 9 knots is awefully slow for an undamaged carrier, especially when they return from a battle that was lost. If I were you I would set the speed to about 15 to 18 kts and see if that makes a difference.

I found that the 'trick' with the 2 minutes 58 seconds really works nicely. Then you know what it should be. And together with the speed estimate of the plotting party (the little watch button) you should be correct.
Mind that you cannot rush your setup, it only rushes the torpedoes out of the tubes to 'somewhere in the ocean' Just like the real thing... groetjes,
