I have installed the 1.3 patch and can move the knobs however when I place my mouse cursor over the switch to turn the radar on and click on it, nothing happens. Can someone please tell me how to turn the radar on?? Brian

The year has to be late 1942 or later when radar became available.
You can view this thread and the thread linked in this to get more information: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/show...ighlight=radar -Pv- |

You will notice that the game has 2 slots for radar - SD and SJ. The SJ is the only one you have control over - it is the surface search radar - it also has 3 range scales and is available in 1942 (I think). The other radar the "SD" is on all the time and used against airborne threats as an Early Warning radar.
You can control range scale and also train down a bearing of a threat and "illuminate"or "paint" the target continuously. I am not sure but I believe that the Japanese are able to detect your radar towards the later part of the game so you have to use it with some caution. Also you can be broached (30 feet) and operate your radar though it's reduced in range or should be. Here is a link that describes the 2 different types much more thourghly. http://www.fleetsubmarine.com/radar.html

Both of the radar screens modeled in the game are SJ (Surface) radar, and they will not become operational until (I think) mid-43. The right hand scope is a PPI and the left is A-Scope, but both are SJ.
The SD Radar effects are modeled (some would say over modeled) on the Nav map screen as air contacts, but the actual scope itself isn't modeled. JCC |

I have found that if you turn it off and on by the buttons then it will stop working in continous sweep mode and will only work in single sweep no matter what combination of button pushing you use, exiting the game and reloading gets it back. Using TM late 43 in a Balao.
Very frustrating as air contacts are only called when spotted by lookouts so a hasty turn and crashdive which usually results in damaged deck gun which damages the gunner if you go to battle stations. crazy stuff.. and lesson learned is don't fiddle with the buttons ![]()
