Default GWX and night.. mercy on us LCD users plz??

Guys,

I LOVE my GWX...so much so that while I will be buying SH4..I have a feeling I'll end up back with my beloved GWX shortly after playing SH4.

My ONLY gripe with GWX is the night darkness. I know you were trying to simulate the pitch black night with GWX...but with my Dell 2001FP (doesnt have the new fangled anitglare, bright coating on the screen) I can see past the bridge at night. And it doesnt seem to matter which Night setting I use in the setup (I notice no difference between the two).

Could you PLEASE, PRETTY PLEASE make a setting to restore the SH3 default night sky??? I PROMISE I wouldnt ask for anything more...as GWX is PERFECT in all other ways!!!

Thanks guys.... even if you cant do this, this is still the best damn mod ever!

What have you done to rectify the current situation?:hmm: Sometimes it is as simple as moving the monitor for a different line of sight.

Had the same gripe with GW1.1 and I think a lot of those were Dell monitors too
I could say mine is ok but thats no use to you

The problem with going to a lighter one that would work for you would mean everyone elses are like daylight

As AVG asked - what have you tried ?

I know nothing of the scene dats but am sure your particular one could be made lighter if all else fails
Hopefully someone will be able to tell you how

I tired both files that you get at setup.... The Dell monitor never handles "darkness" in games very well. I have tried upping my brightness on my monitor as well as contrast and gamma...but then day time looks horrible.

I just find it odd that the stock "night" in SH3 works fine...

We have our PC in a conservatory so we have to wait till dark before we can play SH3 as to attempt to do so in daylight, you can't see a thing.

I have the same "night blindness", though I believe my issue stems from my new video adaptor;
all my games seem to run a little darker than before.
As Ms. Grey noted, playing in daylight is too painful and quite deadly to my crew
as I don't "see" the enemy until they are firing on me.
I'm not asking for a total reversal back to the "vampire vision",
but simply a toggle that allows the rest of us to enjoy the night.

Well since some of you mentioned Dell, I have a Dell ultrasharp widescreen LCD and the night seems perfect to me in GWX, and using 16k atmosphere option as well.

Wouldn't the quality of video card make a difference too?

Edit: This subject has been discussed a number of times already. A little searching could have easily given you previous threads concerning this question.

Go to your GFX card drivers/colours and adjust gamma its as easy as that. Serously. With ATI I know you can set a lower gamma setting for desktop and a higher one for gaming. Nvidia I know you can still change gamma but im not sure if you can vary it between game and desktop.

Naval Intelligence has discovered that British Pig Dogs feed their Night Fighter Pilots extra rations of carrots to assist with night vision. Donitz urges all Uboat Kaleuns to adopt Tommies underhand tatics.

If I set the gamma to where NIGHT looks OK, the daytime looks like a white washed mess.

Just like the above poster....Im just asking for an "option" to use the standard SH3 night. With that I had visability about 1 km out at night. With the "lighter" version of night in SH3 I can see about to the end of the bridge.... 5m maybe...

Fredbass, most times people who post replies to posts like this complaining
about not using the search gets my goat.
However, in this case you are 100% right, I did a search for "too dark"
and came up with several hundred hits.
Repost police dollars hard at work.
Funny, though, on other forums for other interest I've noticed that most time the heaviest posters, the ones with the most posting prestige,
are largely just posting police actions:
"take it to another thread, do a search noob, someone already asked and answered . . . etc."
Look at me I've got 9000 posts, sure 8999 are complaining about noobs, but I'm the man.

Note: This is NOT the case with Mr. Fredbass as I've also checked out his posts,
and he's not been a naughty boy at all.
So I hope I didn't offend you as I sometimes do.
Oh man, now I'm doing it!

I realize that there have been many posts on this. And I have yet to find a satisfactory solution.

Gamma up ruins the day time. Contrast washes everything out, there is nothing wrong with my video card.

I just wanted to ask that IF POSSIBLE, the GWX team consider making the default SH3 "Nigh time" an OPTION. If the stock GWX is ok for you GREAT. For me..... its just wayyy to dark.

AVG...I play in a dark room with lights out and still no good at night.

If I could ALT-TAB out of the game I could jack up my gamma at night, and reduce it during the day.... but guess what SH3 doesnt support (among many other things like AA/AF)....

I run a high end system
Intel Core Duo 2.4 GHZ
ASUS P5B
2 GIG Dual ChannelDDR2 250 GIG SATA hard drive
NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX
Sound Blaster X-FI sound card

I have trouble running 16K atmosphere also,my fps are great but I get some flickering from long shots.I mean the sky in the distance, the sun and moon etc.
However I have found that running in 8K is pretty darn good in itself.I get terrific graphics in 8K.
I dont know what my problem could possibly be unless its my Video card which I was assured could tow the mark.
But all in all i .love the GWX mod.
