I've just read short notice (on local military server with reference to www.maritimequest.com) that there US navy tested new Tomahawk Block 4. It should have bidirectional datalink, can be guided and can be used even for recon. Interesting.
At the end of the article they mention that about 1000 Tomahawks will be modified to anti-ship missiles. I tought all TASMs were modified to TLAMs some time ago .. anybody knows something ? |

It would be helpful if you can provide a direct link to the article, so we can see what they're talking about. From what I understand, the new generation Tomahawk is primarily a land attack missile that can be used as an anti-ship missile if need be. Maybe that's what they're talking about. If you have a link, I'd be interested in reading it. Thanks.

Well, first you convert them from TASM to TLAM, then you convert them again from TLAM to TASM. Must be a pretty good business model for someone I guess

Edited to add: And don't forget that the UK, Netherlands and a few others will have this awesome missile in their forces as well. Last edited by Sea Demon; 01-09-07 at 03:40 PM. |

I think the article might have got it backwords. As I understand it there are still some TASMs in storage, ones which were not converted to TLAMs, and I think those are the ones they are updating to the new Block 4 standard which makes they pretty close to a UAV (what with multiple targets and inflight changes and all).
