I have not met any yet-do any default missions have them?

If you see a broadband contact with no narrow band signture, that's a biologic. It always struck me as funn because you'd think that if something emitted broadband noise, you could filter it and get narrow band noise. Maybe it's all that silly electronics mumbo jumbo speaking, though...

I've only seen them in custom mission. I think SCS missions does not have them.
