Bad idea, I'd never be able to resist the temptation to stand there all day just ordering "tea, Earl Grey, hot" over and over again. And I don't even drink the stuff.

I do, it's actually my favorite. And I'm going "convertible" as well. It's probably something in the tea

Why would the fridge need GPS you ask? If it's running, you'll be able to find it. Maybe a lo jack system would be better.

Today's big job is underway!

Got the fridge moved out of the alcove with far less trouble than I expected. I imagine putting cardboard under the front feet and (eventually) some sliders under the back ones helped.

Certainly not as bad as I expected, and definitely not as bad as what I found when I dropped a screw behind the stove while putting those little shelves up and pulled the big bottom drawer all the way out to see if I could find it. I wish I had never ever had a reason to look under there. On the plus side, I *did* find a quarter, but I'd happily give it back to unsee what I have seen.

But that's a job for another day, today it's all about the fridge alcove. Got the wallboard all pulled out, so it will already be gone whenever I get around to replacing it kitchen-wide. At that point I'll only go just around the corners into the alcove a couple inches at most anyway, but there won't be any mismatched stuff back there that still has to come out.

Since then I've cleaned the area up and prepared it for the painting I'm going to do. I've discovered that spackle, like love and really good airbrushing, will cover a multitude of evils.

That was about 45 minutes ago, now I'm just waiting for the spackle to dry enough to sand it down a bit and paint that area down around the floor. Like the pantry cupboard this is another job where perfection won't be necessary since almost every area I'm working on will have fridge in front of it or be covered eventually by some new baseboard... but I'm hoping it'll at least look a bit more "finished" and, above all, clean.

I did get a couple little jobs done last night, I put up the paper towel thingie and new light I bought to go over the kitchen sink:

Putting that light up turned out to be a bit of a nightmare, it came with two variations of mounting bracket, both of which proved to be useless for an under-the-cabinet mount despite the item's description. In theory it should have worked, in reality the brackets were too thin and flimsy to hold the light fixture up without just bending under the force of gravity.

Kind of a stupid design, really, since the way you mounted the light onto the bracket I wanted to use made it possible to mount the light itself directly to the cabinet WITHOUT a thin, flimsy piece of plastic in between trying vainly to hold onto both and failing - making the bracket completely unnecessary anyway.

But the light is nice, and I can still get it down and back up just as easily to change the batteries whenever that becomes necessary. The lights are LED and it won't be on that much so probably not very often.

Anyway - the spackle is supposed to dry in 30 minutes, and it's been an hour. Time to get back to work!

It's not quite dry enough yet, not in a couple areas where I had to actually fill in some stuff. So I'm sitting here eating Goldfish crackers and watching you losing loser McLose-a-lot British lose the Revolutionary War on the History Channel.*

I did go out and pull up some of the dearly departed Patio Weed Gang but it's raining again, has been all day really. At least there's no mail today so my stuff won't be soaking wet when I get it out of the box. That is one crappy mailbox out there, every time it rains in the afternoon I come home to a sloppy wet mess of mail.

Got a new one last night that should be better but haven't put it up yet. Gotta wait for it to STOP FREAKING RAINING. Plus I don't know if the existing holes will be spaced right, so I may need to get the proper drill bit and drill a new one.

You should be more civilised like us Brits and have functional letterboxes on your doors...and we didn't lose, we decided India was more valuable instead

...and consequently lost it too.
(don't even think about saying something along the lines that Germany used to be bigger too!)

Germany was never bigger too, but not for want of trying.

I think I even botched up the grammar.
I wanted to say that Germany once was bigger than it is today. We lost some territory to Poland after WW2.

Was this originally a thread about the Frau's new home?

No, your wording was fine. Mine was not, since I parroted yours, and intentionally so.

Of course I was just teasing, as I assume you were.

If this thread hadn't been derailed dozens of times already it would now be about twenty pages long.
