Oooh, is this a hint, a new mod coming!:rotfl:
Well, I won't use it until somebody does a balalaika version.:p
Whatever, the balalaika wasn't even used in the Atlantic. There's no way I'm playing that instrument I bet you want it played right way up too... I'm more for realism.

WHAT? No Russian subs yet? Now I'm really disappointed!

You asked a question?

Sorry, sometimes we do get carried away. I realize this was a serious thread, and yours was a legitimate question, but sometimes when someone cracks a joke it's hard not to join in.

Hey no worries, it was my fault because I confused "SH4 Effects for SH3" with "SH4 Scene for SH3" and started a debate that needn't have happened...my apology was genuine and my "I shouldn't have asked the question" comment a reflection of my ignorance.

Phew....glad that's off me chest, now to pluck some of those hairs whilst i'm at it.

Nice! Finally I too was able to understand all the hidden secrets of scenes/atmospheres mods
But nonetheless, following Kpt. Lehmann, it appears that even Reece's work is not compatible with GWX, right? :hmm:
Damn... It's more fun trying to find a "solution" for modding everything you want, than to actually sink the fatties :rotfl:
Feeling... nerd...

Not at all, they (GWX Team) have set their sensors.dat to be the same for 8k or 16k, as I explained the SH3 world as you see it is 8k for the 8k version & 16k for the 16k version, the crew can see to 16k in 16k version but the crew can see to 16k in 8k as well, it's just that you can only see to 8k from the conning tower, in the 8k version the crew have x-ray vision & can see over the horizon!
After close examination I found that with the 8k version I can actually see to 12k on a clear day & as Sailor Steve pointed out you can see light house's even further as they are higher & emit a bright light, probably to around 16k in 8k scene, that is why I set mine to 12k.
The GWX 8k atmosphere is really incorrect but most people want their visuals higher that is probably why it's left that way.
I hope I explained it better.
Another explanation:
SH3 was created with a visual range to 8km (about 6.5miles) in the Scene.dat file, the crew or U-boats visual range was also set to 8km in the Sensors.dat file, later modders changed the visual range to 16km, adjusting both Scene.dat & Sensors.dat. GWX produced an 8k Scene.dat & 16k Scene.dat but only 16k Sensors.dat.
If anyone wants I can put it down to 12k, just let me know.
I don't understand all, but apperantly Reece's SH4 scene.dat shouldn't remove any GWX features!?

The SH4 Scene for SHIII is compatable with GWX 2, infact all supermods but 8k atmosphere only, RB's SH4 Effects for SHIII are currently not compatable with GWX 2, you lose no features of GWX!!
I seem to be going around in circles.
This is truely amazing!!

A final explanation - I hope!

When SH3 was created the visual range that you could see, from the conning tower, through the binoculars, was set to 8km, basically this is how far you can see on the horizon, this is set in the Scene.dat file & has nothing to do with the crews visual range, that is set in the sensors.dat file, and was also set to 8km.
Modders then changed the Scene.dat file so that the view from the conning tower through binoculars had a range of 16km on a clear day, they also set the sensors.dat file so that the crew had the same range. GWX team has 2 versions, 8k scene & 16k scene for you to chose from, note this is your visual range only, but left the crews sensors.dat at 16km for both, this way your map updates or crews visual sighting will have the same regardless of 8km or 16km scene.

Now the SH4 Scene.dat file can not be set to 16km horizon, all attempts so far have failed so it's stuck at 8km, however as noted the crew can still see to 16km, I have pointed out that I prefer to have the crews sensors set to 12k since the SH4 Scene is stuck at 8km, mainly because on a clear day I have sighted visually up to 12km, but changing this is up to you.
I hope this clears it up.
Cheers,
Reece

So I can use your mod with GWX2? The world doesn't turn upside-down or so?? Rain switched for depth charges?

Anyway, did I say your mod is great!? Been using it a couple of patrols, looks really good!

Yes it's fully compatable as long as you are not using the GWX option of 16k atmosphere, if you are using this you will have to disable it, or you may have a black sky. Glad you like it.

Yep, I do confirm that point. Disable the GWX 16K atmosphere to avoid a black sky and enjoy Reece's very good mod that brings the Ocean to a very realistic one
