Well, if we're going to be serious again, these days an argument is defined as disagreement or contention, but originally it meant the logic or reasoning of a stated position. Legal dictionaries define it as "the reasoning given for or against a matter under discussion".
But of course my statement was a quote from the Monty Python sketch, and was meant to add to the train of fun. With a couple of exceptions I seem to have failed. ![]() ![]()

![]() ![]() Sailor Steve, I beg to differ that you were indeed a sailor, even though your avatar and TGYC patch clearly invalidate my argument. ![]() Furthermore: ![]()

Who ever said the Civil war was about slavery? Stupid liberal educational system these days! Errr!
![]() The Civil War was about States rights! The South wanted to secede from the Union due to unfair taxation imposed on them by President Lincoln. The Southern land owners were wealthy and the North wanted to sink their teeth into that wealth. When the South refused and seceded from the Union, Lincoln declared war on the South and used violence and intimidation as a means to get what he wanted. Black slavery happened EVERYWHERE at that time (Both in the North and in the South). But Lincoln, in a desperate effort for popularity when Union morale was at an all-time-low, and in hopes of creating behind enemy lines sabotage in the South, freed Black slaves ONLY in the South. He still had them mending his trousers, cleaning his home, and running him a bath up North however. After the war ended, the North felt the need to come up with other excuses for why they attacked, raped, pillaged, and burned down the cities in the South. Because let's face it, it's pretty hard to justify straight up mas murder as a noble deed! So they exaggerated up stories about slave mistreatment in the South to put a complete spin on why the war started. Today, our liberal educational system teaches us that President Lincoln was a great man and that the Civil war was about slavery and that the big bad Southern white man had an ass whupping coming to him! LOL! ![]() Just think of how history books would have been written if the South had won. We'd be better taught about the evils of dictatorships and tyrannical rule instead. We definitely wouldn't have a current President that felt that a person's good fortune and wealth should be robbed from them by the government and given over to someone else who is less fortunate and/or too lazy to work. Anyways, that's just my $0.02. |
