I can understand your frustration with some members of the GWX team, and although I do not agree with their language and behaviour, I think you also have a fair share of the responsibility (but please let's just leave it there). In any case the game is something totally different. The fact that you don't get along with some people doesn't mean you don't play the game if you like it, that would be childish. Now if you do not like it fine. It's anyone's choice to play whatever they like.

So have a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and I hope you enjoy SH with the mod of your choice

By nice weather and calm sea I get :
Ahead slow 5 kts
Ahead 1/3 10 kts
Ahead standard 14 Kts

which is faster than what I was used to... but the autonomy seems to match for the same speeds.
My navigator gives me over 14.000 km for running 10 knts at ahead 1/3, which is the same as in NYGM by 10 kts, except I am on ahead standard instead of 1/3...

Also submerged ahead slow is 3 knots vs 2 knts in NYGM...

Will have to get used to it when jumping from one install to the other..
Corsair,

Just a note about speeds. The Real Life Uboat Behavior Mod, included in GWX apart from the positive buoyancy, makes the speed of the Uboat vary a lot, depending in the weather. The variability spans both when you "break" or "ride" a big wave and between different weather conditions. You should achieve the maximum nominal speed only when the weather conditions are almost perfect ie 0-2 m/s winds. This also has an implication on fuel consumption, which is less predictable now, making a safety margin essential when you plan for a long trip.

Thks for your comments. I am quite aware of that and used to this feature in NYGM where speeds drop down with the weather and when you turn. I'm used as well to frequently check the autonomy. I was just pointing out after trials at sea what difference I had found on the same boat betseen the two mods, as it was the original subject of the thread. The sizes of crew compartments are different as well...
I will just have to adjust myself when I go from playing one or the other, no big deal.

PS : the title of this thread is GW or NYGM ? I don't think this is the right question : they both are superb jobs with two different approaches, I would recommend to do a dual install and play both ...

With GMX out now, I'd say that this is (unfortunately for me ) not true. My "old" workhorse (1.2 GHz, 512 RAM, Nvidia 6800FX) worked well with SH3 + IUB 1.3 and living harbor, but GWX ist to much for it, I believe. I have Crash to Desktops in the end phase of starting SH3-GMX even though I installed everything right.
OK I see what your problem is here. SH3/GW and GWX need CPU power and RAM. If you have enough of both then the game runs fine. I do have less RAM (512MB) but I have a powerfull computer at 3.3GHz, that compensates for the lack of memory. I'm affraid with only 1.2GHz it will be difficult to play GWX. Still as a last resort I would suggest you try to use the No Harbour Traffic add on mod in GWX. It takes away harbour traffic, mines and subnets. Check it out and you might be able to play GWX. Good Luck
Yep, I 've already tried no harbor traffic, but it ain't working.

I must apologize misleading you, yesterday evening I re-checked and I have 1.83 Ghz, not 1.2 GHz as I wrote down earlier from memory, but that doesn't change the fact that my workhorse isn't due yet for a new processor and mainboard upgrade, as everything else I'm working and playing with is running well.

Now after two days, my dissapointment is getting less and I accept the fact that GWX is a no-no with my current hardware. That means fir me back to the IUB 1.3 mod. I liked JonZ's mod anyway very much, but I don't see any upgrades of it with the newest mods lately, guess I'll have to do that by my own .

I just hope there will be still enough mods coming out who do not require GWX or NYGM as a must-have install. Naturally I'm more interested in mods changing the gameplay rather than fancy graphics.

Alternatively, I may ask the "Christkind" for more RAM and give it another try after X-Mas.

Cheers and Fette Beute to the SH3-Community,

With the thread "Who has problems with GMX" unfortunately having gone downhill and being locked, I take this thread to report that I finally managed yesterday to get GWX running. The issue of the CTD's was rather profane: I scaled up my virtual Windows XP memory to 1009 MB and GWX loaded.

I hereby report back to duty!

Thanks to the Community for thier active help and suggestions.

Glad t ear that, mate...

I forgot completly about the Windows virtual memory,
and there is another thing if you use that kind of setings in the virtual
memory it can help a lot of people who are running the game in a low (512) Ram ,
Virtual memory also works as Ram since is a way that windows haves
to use available Hard Disck space as Ram...
So if you increase the Windows Virtual Memory actually when you run the game
Windows will use it as ram...

Now you can taste real fun....
