But taking a thin metal sheet, like from a beer can and press it into the hull so it takes it's shape and then pouring lead into it (outside) would actually do the trick.

I just buy cheap lead weights from the fishing shop and glue them in the way they are.

As good a way as any....small pebbles or stones even, providing you have a good thick resin to embed it.
