There's nothing wrong with a bit of fantasy, after all if you don't like the new U-Boat you can always use the Type IX. I mainly used it in SH3 and I'll be happy to give it a go in SH4's engine.

The only complaint I have about the new sub is that I would have preferred a Narwhal.

I would have liked a Type VII so the modders could REALLY be wide open to creating an Atlantic campaign!

Not a good attitude. I personally think there should be as much support for this as possible - I said this before and will again, if we want further commercial development of subsims, it should be supported.

Im sure the add on will bring in some more money for ubi for further development of the SH series. For myself though, ive already spent a hundred USD, plus tax. I'm just not interested in extending gameplay for uboats. I Played SH3, for the most part, from release, until SH4 was released. While im sure the diehard das boot fans can't get enough, Ive had enough of uboats to last me for years. Frankly im sick of em, and want to move on to other things like the pacific. To me, being burnt out on the ATO, the expansion is like a step backwards to SH3.

Realistic, no. However, I love the XXI.
I always thought it was great for single missions, but as a career game, i could never get into it. I can't put my finger on it, but over time, that boat just irratates me. Maybe its the snorkel routine, or the inability to do 19-20 kts to do and end round attack, or never seeing the ocean or scanning the horizon with bino's, or the slower surface speed. Probably a combo of all of the above.

Im sure if i wasn't smart enough to put a few select indviduals on ignore a few weeks ago, id have been trolled into another flamewar. Since drama is their only contribution here, im not missing much.

I wholeheartidly agree. This is my biggest beef.
edit: thank you Reeaves, you just gave me an idea. I hope it works.

Psedo narwhale:

Create a new submarine type, that inheirts dat files from another sub. Then we could script this particualr sub, to have its own equipment configurations, and missions. So if you wanted some narwhale styled missions, you could do them.

Only fly in the ointment, model used will probably be a porpoise, sargo or salmon, and not a real narwhale.

If you can make most of the missions doing supply runs, commando drop offs and rescue missions that would be interesting.

Not gonna buy the expansion. I see zero reason to spend money on something I have no interest in.

If they had added in more US,Japanese,UK and Australian ships then yeah,I would buy it.

But I'm sure Ubi will make plenty of money by placating the U-boat crowd, even if it is basically a fantasy game based on a rather minor theater of operations.

I'll buy it if it encourages them to keep the SH franchise alive...or brings the DC franchise back from the dead. :hmm:

I do, too. If people want to play Fantasy Hunter with U-boats in the Pacific, fine, but I suspect the "real" purpose here is to provide a starter kit of sorts for more Atlantic theater fun. I'm looking forward to the mods that come out of it.

2 cents.

I'm totally about this, gosh, I'd love to have a DC2, I can't beat that horse enough....

I'll buy this, mainly to support this type of game, and I've pretty much quit buying things, and only play SH4, and NR2003......

Naturally if the add-on is trash and adds nothing valuable you shouldn't buy it, but if it is enough value... why not? Especially if it may help finance further commercial development.

All due respect to modders, I think we still very much need commercial subsim development to continue the hobby. At least until the day when open-source can match the level of efficiency of pro development, but right now that's still ways away for us.
Well there is that and the fact that the modders will most likely make use of the addittional material requiring one to have the add on to run their mods.

Finishing SH4 properly should have been the priority, not caving to the U-boat junkies.

There are so many ship types missing in the Pacific area we have in SH4 that I just do not understand how the devs countenance the addition of U-boats, especially a type that never ever sailed.

At the very least they should have thrown us Pacific guys a bone, like say the Tench class, or Narwal, or playable IJN boats. And if they were going all fantasy land, why not a Guppy, or better yet, USS Nautilus (SSN 571).

But noooooooooo... More Atlantic stuff that have been done for years ad nauseum.
