ouch what's wrong with the viper? You can't attack it for not doing what it is'nt designed to do... If it works and as everyone can see the F16 is exported around the world, something must have been done right.

Remember this is a single seat, single engine, medium cost, multi-role strike fighter and nothing more. I don't see how saying it has only one engine makes it any less suitable for that role. Try a dead engine landing in falcon AF, it's not that hard

i watched 3 tv programmes on the F16 and each one said almost the same thing.

the design is aerodynamicaly unstable therefore if the on board computer went down the plane would drop like a stone.

on the contrey though the F16 is a very good plane ive flown these birs on simulators and found them very good im not dissing the F16 they are very capible but there getting old and i think its time to hand over to something new

All fighter aircraft have inherent instability built into the design. This is what allows for their great agility in action. Really, the same comment about the onboard computer can be said for any modern combat jet.

Damn Takeda you beat me to it.

Any modern fighter will drop out of the sky fi the flight CPu goes, including the Su-27 and variants.

Although not my favourite the F-16 is a great plane.

Also it is no older than other fighters going about of the same capability.

Also for most forces, is there a current decent replacement?

Not really.

Also there is a replacement for the F-16 called the F-35. We'll see how that works out.

that is true the F16 has good agility but then again so does the MIG 29 the only issue is that the single engine and its power im not sure on its output doubt it is as powerful as the Mig 29

Though it depends on the variant, the thrust to weight ratio of the MiG-29 is about 1.05:1, while it is at about 1.2:1 for the F-16, therefore the F-16 is more powerful. People like to compare the fulcrum with the hornet and falcon, based on their somewhat similar size and lightweight philosophy, bu in truth they aren't really designed for the same roles, with both the Hornet and Falcon more of true multi-role jets and the Fulcrum really a fighter with some secondary air to ground capability.

Mig 29 SM is the next version and is true multi role. Problem is thought they have added tankage to it it still lacks range of say the F/A-18

The Su-27 family I think is a more complete fighter if you were to choose between the two.

But the F-16 just by numbers in service around the world and range of weapons is the top teen fighter.

i would have placed the Mig 21 in the top ten as over 10,000 were built and almost 3,000 still in use today many with china and some lesser powers

Yea I like it tbut he Mig 21 couldn't carry jack and what it could carry couldn't carry for very long.

Good interceptor, dogfight over base plane though.

Actually, its amazing what some upgrades have done for the MiG-21. The Lancer upgrade that the Israeli firm Elbit did for Romanian MiG-21's is pretty neat. Glass cockpit, new avionics and LGB capability. They can even carry the LIGHTENING pod. Talk about teaching an old dog new tricks!
