I read a book that say that this tactic was used by Us submarines , but they had a 6 forward torpedos and 2 or 4 in the stern . with a 20-23 reloads.

this make things difficult for the japanese ships, that later in the war where runnig out of destroyers

it depends. with the technic i described, the DD don't have to turn.
the torpedo comes under the keel and hits the destroyer under the stern artillery (and ammunition depot)

thanks hartmann, I knew I've read it somewhere , I'm not that foolish

Yeah i would have to say setting it to magnetic to run under the destroyers keel is the best bet. At least then you dont have a shot that may bounce off.

thats the POINT of this tactic, the torps wont bounce because the destroyer stupidly turns to avoid the torps and takes them at a 90 degree angle

yes, if you use a TI, the boat will turn.
But with a TII, he doesn't know when you'll shoot a torpedo. so he stays straight on. that's why you must use magnetic system on you TII.

it's just a little difference but with magnetic shot, DD has no way out. it works 100%.

It depends on the type of torpedo you have in your sub.

Yeah, but if the destrpyer turns and you set them for fast at 600m then it turns just in time to take it right at 90 degrees

OK. let's see
1) I got the attention

She came straight to me

First torpedo in the water, deep 0

She saw it

Torpedo bounces

Second torpedo in the water.
She turn only 30 degrees.

It bounces too

Hmmmm.... maybe its because its that type of destroyer, I blew up a Tribal and a type J, maybe they have different specs. Maybe it is different speeds. Try at 1000-1200meters. That will give it more time to turn.

Do I understand this correctly... You fire a salvo with two TIs set to about ten degrees (or more?) from each other, so that when the destoyer sees the trails he automatically turns to either left or right?

That would work BETTER but I fired them at a 0degree arc. The first one kills it, the second one was just for insurance.

Second try

Location

Foreground: Elco, background Somers

I targeted to the Elco, the torpedo bounces despite it had a magnetic setup.

The Somers came straight ahead; no evasion maneuvering. Perhaps the torpedos were too deep???

First torpedo bounces, the second one not.

From what ive read it was called a "Down the throat shot".

Not a common manuvere, but accounts ive read would lead me to beleive that it was done, albiet seldomly.

And yes, US fleet boats have 6 forward and 4 rear. If memory serves me correctly they also have 4 diesal engines and not jsut two, and could flank speed at around 21 knots on the surface.

Personnaly ive taken to shooting those solo destroyers that seem to criss cross out of nowhere. The amount you have to lead on a destroyer doing 25 knots is incredible, but when that fish hits, its halarious. I have fun watching them sink as their skimmiing accross the sea. LOTS of smoke!
