Is there a trial version so that I can see if my laptop is capable of running this game.

I think you have 2 hours to try it and get a refund if you cannot get it to run.

Turn on Bots and use Tutorial mode, and then Skirmish - Quick Encounter, that should give you a good basis to check performance.
