PC at its worst. Authoritarian bureaucracy state at its best. The fat cat and the righteous bourgeoise moralist have one thing in common. They both want to get asked, they both want you to kneel for their permission. That's what makes their day, that's the source of their power.

Sad world we live in nowadays. We must not be proud of our flag, we must not believe in a higher and positive spirituality (whatever the form or the name), we must not have an opinion, and definitelly not make a stand for what we believe in, however right it is. We are being turned into drones.
You're painting a misleading and ridiculous picture.

On the barest grounds, political correctness means being mindful of the words we use so as not to cause needless offence.

Obviously you can pick out extreme cases of people being stupid and call the whole endeavor ridiculous. That's fair enough.

But when you say that "we can't believe in a higher spirituality" you're talking absolute rubbish. Same goes for the rest of the world you describe.

Ugh. This is a landlords decision (that they have since apologised for), not the actions of authoritarian state power .

don't let me stop you intentionally misunderstanding the issue though .

I can tell you are story like this and it's from Denmark

It occurs some month ago

A leader from the danish police acadamy demanded that the danish flag was removed from the acadamy 'cause it could offend some of the students that wasn't danish

Thank god, the story came to danish press and about 90 % of politician from the danish parlament said no way. The flag is stil hanging on the wall in some of the rooms.

Can we all lighten up...everyone should have a right to express themselves as long as they are acting within the boundaries of the law and not intentionally provoking others on the grounds of racism etc.

That's the most cynical euphemism that I have heard in a very long time.

And the point is he wasn't allowed paint the door according to his rental contract. So there's your law.

And nobody can seriously claim that the flag is racially provocative. So that gets rid of that.

instead GT is turning it into the usual gripefest about awful politicians and how we're all doomed to a sexless emotionless politically correct hellscape.

But why now after 10 years?? That's my question

The landlord must have passed his door several times during those 10 years, so why, first now??

Firstly the boundaries of the law have been set, if he doesn't like it he can buy his own house and do what he wants with it.
Secondly, he served in the 6 counties, so must know how some people can get a little annoyed with other people painting flags on buildings.
Thirdly, unfortunately the cross of St. George has for a long time been associated with vile scum who appropriated it for their own loony agenda, you can't really blame people for mistakenly associating his door display with those scum can you.

Do like the article says.....The flag of St George needs to be reclaimed from the far right....if the dumb racists hadn't claimed the flag as their badge there wouldn't be that much of an issue over the flag itself. So don't blame "political correctness" blame the dumb neo nazis.

Places for People, which owns Mr Rolfe’s house, has since apologised for calling the flag offensive but insists its tenant must repaint the door because he did not have the proper permission to turn it into an England flag.

Same issue in America with the old confederate flag. People seem to think it is a sign of racism when it really may not be intended to be racist depending on who has it up for me it is a symbol of the south and a different time period(i am in the north BTW) it was also a symbol for a few countries other than the Confederate States of America too at one point.

I know a guy who has a Confederate Flag painted on the hood of his Ford Bronco.

Willing to bet there is more to the story between the renter & owner, that would explain the ten year delay.
