Default shiver me timbers to be put about

I read I hope all the threads available on this subject here "thank you all". With wild anticipation of new found cure to sooth this itch.I have yet to run this navigation mod with the sextant and hope it does not make more sense influenced by scurvy. Thank you again to my new friends and for your time and effort to help poor me.

For my thanks my favorite recipe for Plum Duff

(Serves 8)
4 pounds plain flour
2 pounds grated pork fat
1 cup sugar
1¾ pints (UK), 2 pints (US) water
1½ cups raisins or currants
1 cup molasses
Prefer fresh plums or soaked dried plums in rum ad to fit yer dersire
and if available a wee bit o Cinnamon
Mix all the ingredients together and knead thoroughly (adding extra water if necessary) to make a stiff dough. Divide dough into eight
portions, tie each snugly in a floured pudding bag or cloth, steam for
1 hour and serve with custard. For Double-shotted duff, double the 'plums'.

Enjoy Capt. Plank

Lol. I'm a big stickler for correct usage, but not for spelling (typos are easy to make). I especially object when people mistake "your", and "you're". And I got caught doing the same thing myself just a week or two ago, so I got what was coming to me, but I keep on doing it.

On the other hand, I usually only react to people using a completely wrong word, as was done here. One you'll always see me jump at is "per say" (which should be "per se", which is Latin for "by itself".)

I was taught at school never to start a sentence with "and"

I was taught never to end a sentence with a preposition... but that is arrant pedantry, up with which I shall not put.

Very good. I usually begin a follow-on sentence with "That said, ..." but sometimes, as in this case, I do wrong things on purpose just to make a point. As I pointed out, not too long ago I accidentally used "you're" when I meant "your". That to me is the much bigger mistake, and I don't mind being corrected at all.

What point were you trying to make?

A pedantic sentence if ever I read one.

Nope, quite the opposite.

The story goes that a bumbling editor once awkwardly rearranged one of Churchill’s sentences to avoid ending a sentence with a preposition. Churchill responded with an angry but clever marginal note: “This is the type of arrant pedantry up with which I will not put.” The story is bogus, unfortunately... But while the story is untrue, like most popular myths, it still communicates something true: sometimes the rules are wrong and can lead one astray.
