I think this is the key here. The game runs fine until certain strains are placed on your graphics. This is where you should center your trouble-shooting efforts IMHO. Have you checked your in-game graphics settings or the graphics setting in your GPU control panel? Maybe something as simple as toning down the "Particle Density" setting could be the answer here. Also, monitor your system temperature (if you can) while certain loads are placed on your GPU. It could be that your GPU is overheating. Hopefully you don't have a jumble of wires hanging down and interfering w/airflow. If so, tape them together and out of the way.
Sorry, wish I could offer a sure-fire fix.

Default Same Thing Happens to Me

I definitely understand what you're going through. I have the same thing happening to me in SH4 V1.5 with Windows 7 64 bit operating system. Mainly, when I'm looking through the scope my computer totally locks up for no reason. I've not follow an answer yet that will fix the problem.
