Did a crash dive from the surface, but took some slight damage before getting under and ordered a deeper depth before I reached 70 metres. I went to silent running at two knots but slowly started sinking by the stern. I could only mantain depth by going faster than 2 knots which gave my position away every time.

That's why I thought it was an isolated incident. I've done the same thing a couple of times and have read about it as well.

That's what I suspected too.

I only crash dive for aircraft. Everything else is Dive, then Full Ahead.

Had something like this happen to me today when evading DD's after hitting a convoy. Crash Dived from PD then selected a deeper depth (160m) Once I got to 160m the boat levelled but kept descending, the planesmen tried to keep the boat at ordered depth so the boat ended up in a nose-up position and it was getting dangerously close to crush depth. Had to run the electrics at a mimimum of 1/3 and head for about 130m.

I was being hunted down by 2 destroyers at the time so it was taking a bit of a risk. Once I'd reached 130m it seemed to work fine after that.

I worked this whole "Bug" into my patrol report as malfunction or crew error or something so it turned a standard tense and dramatic escape into a very tense and terrifying fight for survival.

Either 45 or try running under them, then crank up as the DCs drop in and turn 10 degrees, then drop to slow as the DCs explode, this helps to mask your position for a short time giving you a few extra metres...in an ideal world of course.
