1. What does Sending patrol/contact reports do? Does it have any benefits at all?

2. About the captain's log. Is there any way to allow me to write it manually? Because by default it is kind of dull and boring. Reading old logs written by myself would later bring back pleasant memories about patrols. In stead of boring facts about the tonnage sunk.

3. About the awards. Is there any system by which I recieve medals? Because I think they are given away randomly... I recieved the knights cross with golden leaves and swords for a patrol in which I didn't sink a single ship! How's that? But then when I manage to sink some 5-6 ships, I get nothing!

4. Can ships somehow detect incoming torpedos? Because sometimes I see ships evading G7e torpedo, although it has no visible trace on the surface. Or maybe it was just a coincidence?

1A: The Patrol Report lets you see, at a glance, what you've accomplished so far.

1B: If you read your own Contact Report, it will give you that convoys course and speed.

2: There are mods to improve the log, but not to the level you seek.

3: The medals you recieve are based on your cummulative renown. And YES, it sure can seem strange when you do, and don't, get them. They don't do anything helpful for your carreer anyway. I ignore them.

4: Not that I'm aware of.

Strange... because sometimes I randomly get a message: "Radio message received." But then when I click on report message [or something like that] it says - "No radio messages received". Oh well, I guess I ought to ignore it.

I see, said the blind man, as he picked up his hammer and saw.

Forget asking the Radioman for anything.
Press "M" for Messages, on your keyboard.
Then click on the message you want to read, or type message you'de like to send.

I remember going through the same problem.
Everybody here is pretty good at helping eachother.

Haha, I ought to be blushing right now. Thank you! It seems that I don't know a lot of basic things about this game. Yes, I have noticed that people are very helpful around here. :]

You cannot edit the log yourself in the game. But JScones made a little addon for SHCommander that allows you to add lines to the log. You have to write your log entries into a temporary text file (alt tab to notepad or something) which you can later (SH3 is shutdown) get added to the game's log file. I personally haven't messed with it. I just remember it is possible. I suggest you dig into that huge sticky thread in the mods section for SH3 Commander.

The learning process never seems to end with SH3.
It's rich in detail.
