I would love that because then Ubisoft would pour more resources into the SH franchise, instead of it limping along due to lackluster sales.
If there was less piracy in Eastern Europe and Asia, market of some 3-4.000.000 "black" players... we would already have another team making IX type... and third one making 44/45 campaign - all togather paid in advance by Ubi...

I voted yes for an addon. The last year or two of the war for a captain were less about glory for the fatherland and more about pure survival. The possibility that if I played my cards right and managed to keep the men alive long enough that the Reich would come to its senses and wave the white flag adds an element of tension and excitement to the campaign. Also it allows for roleplaying as the kaleun in ways that can't be programmed into the game. If I'm ordered by BdU to go on a suicide mission to stop a taskforce in Gibralter at the end of the war but I'm "roleplaying" the kaleun as a disillusioned man, fed up with the senseless sacrifice, I can take the option of steering my boat to an area where my chances of survival are better.

My fear is that SH5 may not allow for this kind of real roleplay action. And therein lies the problem with adding "RPG" elements into sims. No one can write a better story or character background for a sim than the player.

That said, all we can do is speculate and root for the devs to deliver us a winner. I vote for more rooting than speculating at this point.

Dammit, it's not even February yet!

I vote that 43-45 campaign with allied abilities of that time is a must.
Add to it xxi uboat with acoustic torpedoes radars and you have all new game/sim.
It may be not historically correct but i dont care i think it would be much more fun than happy times.Kind of like early cold war technology warfare.

SirUber, i would have greatly agreed with you, but if there is to be an expansion (primarily based) on Sir Websters comments, regarding the Sneaky peaky side of simulation, then i shall embrace and welcome, the add on. Perhaps running silent a while, will stand good stead for sh 7, cold war release. (After Sh6, fairness to the pacific fans, of course.) I would warm very much to this idea, only having once completed the sim, and accumulated lots of tonnage and medals of course. SirSober my friend, i sway to Yes, but why no, not sure maybe, option on poll None the less, a poll thread of worth. Good Day.

the poll is nonsense. the option "no, i want the addon to be modded" is missing. for me, i dont want to buy extras. "extras" which are no extras, but missing content.

this really is the wrong signal, to be ready to buy extra content. lets see, how modable the game is, and decide afterwards, if there needs to be content added. note: i said "added" and not "completed"...completing missing content.

really nice interaction between boats and bdu, with shadowing and helping each other, attacking convois, helping in case a lack of fuel, or rescue missions for sunken boats, writing an own logbook, using the enigma for decoding reports, etc. -> coded elements and functions!!! this would be a great addon.

but not the unfinished years 43-45...

Because the Devs said those years are relatively unimportant.

Did they?

Dan: The game actually ends after Black May, which we feel is the real climax of the U-boat war. We tried to portray more carefully, in more detail, the golden years of the U-boar war and what has led up to the real Black May. Neal, If you remember a few months before May 1943, they had the highest scoring month in the war, and then just a month later, they lost the most submarines because the Allies introduced some real effective countermeasures against U-boats. And then Doenitz was forced to retreat his U-boats from the Atlantic because they never actually challenged the Allied sea powers the same way as before. So for now, we felt we wanted to concentrate on the early years and maybe later to give the same attention to the the late war years we think should come with some professional approach. For example, if you remember Silent
Hunter 3 we had the late war game with the Type XXI U-boat and everything, but we never actually did portray the Allied side of the anti-submarine warfare, as we should have. You know there are really advanced weapons that were used, like aircraft dropped torpedoes and magnetic anomaly detectors that if you wanted to do a real simulation of the late war years against U-boats, you gotta have those in. So, we don't want to just put on the box of the game 'oh, it's the whole war', it's the first part of the war really where we are concentrating.

EDIT: i see in other threads there was a bit of tonnage sunk by u-boats after 1943 so i guess there is somewhat of a campaign left but its like one sub lost for every ship sunk

I find that attitude interesting, since a huge number of people who didn't like or refused to play SH4 cited the fact that the American war got progressively easier, while the u-boat war got progressively harder, and that made it much more interesting. The real captains had to deal with it; why shouldn't we be able to if we want to? I'm not insisting, but the option would be nice. Or are you saying that you don't really want a sim, but a game, and nothing but a game?

Not good choice:

At 39-43 YOU are a hunter, in 43-45 you are hunted.

What is fun with escape to the depths all time, hour by hour? The Allies controlled the air, have aircrafts permanently in air, have seeking groups, high-trained escorts equipped with long range radars... This frustration is not the game - you want it?

Unless you mean a hunting uboats between 43-45 - and both game are DC2 vs. SH5 - it would be what I would like to see all my heart...

So you don't really care about the sim aspects either? You just want a game you can pwn every time?

I'd like the missing years added as well as the missing U-boat types

Of course I want an Add-on! I want to feel the change going from being the hunter to the hunted. I want to experience the different tactics, the different challenges.

If I always just wanted to be the hunter, I'll go play MW2 on wousy level (but not on MP, those 12 yr olds are really dexterous).
